How to find what programs are using what ports?

Azeurus just started giving me the error "Failed to establish listen on port 6969". I need to know how to check to see what program is using that port or find out how to change what port azeurus uses.

From a command prompt:

Quick Method:
netstat -ao
OR
netstat -nao (slightly faster, doesn't do DNS lookup on connected IPs)

Note PID # of process listed (last row) on whatever port (second row in IP:pORT format) you are looking for and then use Windows Task Manager Processes tab with PID column displayed (View->Select Columns->check PID) to find the name of the program. You can also end the process from here as long as it is not a critical system process.

Slow method (Also generates huge listing):

netstat -ab | more
OR
netstat -nab | more

Will list all of the ports in use on the PC, the PID and the name of the application that has them open. You would still have to note the app and go find and end it via Task Manager.
 
Okay, figured it out. Turns out this remote desktop program that I installed a while ago (VNC) was using that port. Thanks everyone.
 
problem solved already, but i wanted to mention i use fport for this type of thing. shows PID, process name port and protocol for every process listening on a port. very handy.

I use Fport as well but unfortunately I've been finding that it's been less than acurate with XP machines around here. netstat -a o reveals quite a bit more going on than fport does. ymmv
 
Yeah, tightvnc is a pretty awesome prog.. Uses some applet.. Good shit.. But change the tightvnc port and your good to go.
