How to download game updates from XBL?

so i've been hearing about some game updates being released for gears of war, COD3, etc before xmas, and i'm just wondering as to how i'll be downloading those? will they automatically download or do i have to go through certain menus to do it?

If an update is available for a game it will prompt you do download it when you try to play the game. If you don't update it will sign you off of xbl.

Wonder what the GoW update will do? Hopefully address the DRE's and the slow loading textures, but I hope it adds some content. Maybe bump the multiplayer up to 6v6 or add some new weapons (I highly doubt they'll do either).

I figure the CoD update will fix the problems people have been having with connecting to XBL games.

I've heard GoW is going to get a fix regarding ranked matches and how it kicks you back to the main screen after a match.

CoD I heard would be the connectivity issues.
