How do you dim cold cathodes?

Special inverter circuits, modify the input DC voltage? I think they're frequency controlled, so the inverter circuit would have to change the output frequency.

Any links please?
 
I can dim my CCFL's by reducing their voltage to around 9v using a sunbeam rheobus...

I get around a 30% dip in luminosity.
 
I'd go with reducing the input voltage to the inverter as well...

From what I've heard though, you should never mess with the inverter->CCFL wiring. Its a specific length/wrapped for a reason. Not sure why exactly.

yes, but lights don't have to be at their brightest for you to enjoy them. plus a lot of us who have their computers in their bedroom wouldn't mine dimming the case lights when going to sleep.

I just turn my lights off and turn down all of my fans because my computer stays on 24/7.
