Hey all,

I have a WD 250gb drive in the PC now, in three partitions. it has an issue with noise, so I got an RMA for it, a new 250gb same drive.

I need to copy everything over, bit to bit so that i dont have to reinstall Vista or anything.

I tired the WD Lifeguard tools by booting off the CD, and i have two issues. Either I copy all the partitions, but they get arbitrarily set to "current used space +5gb" which leaves a bunch of space unused, or i copy just the boot partition but it has some issues and Vista takes half an hour to boot.

Either way, I have to start with a Vista CD and repair the boot manager first as I get the NLTDR not found error.

My question is, are there other options in terms of software I can use to copy everything form old drive to new drive that work better?

Lookup bootit next generation it works well and you can download the trial it will work for 30 days then you will have to uninstall just use the bootable portion from cd don't install and clone your drive for free!

Acronis TrueImage.

It's one of the few pieces of software that I feel is actually worth the asking price. It's literally that good.

Thanks guys.

I used an old copy of Acronis I had and it worked perfectly. The WD tools are junk by comparison.

One piece of advice, if you have modified your Vista bootup with the /nogui option, turn it back on so you see whats going on.
