I have the RS-232 cable. I have tested it on the same computer with the same cable to connect to a Cisco 2600. Why can't I get anything out of this Nortel?

I use Hyperterminal in windows to connect and use these settings as outlined in the manual: 9600 baud, eight data bits, one stop bit, no parity as the communications format, with flow control set to disabled.

What am I doing wrong? Like I said, I have ZERO problems connecting to the Cisco and cannot get anything from the Nortel.

I have a Nortel/Bay Networks Centillion 100 which also uses a RS232 cable.

The settings that I use are:

Code:
Bit Per Second: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

I can console into the switch using a VT-100 term via Hyperterminal in Windows XP. If the settings don't work for you - is it possible that serial access has been diasbled? Look into resetting the firmware on the router if possible (although on some Nortel/Bay switches this can be a bit of a PITA). Otherwise there is "SpeedView" which is a custom console application I can use on my Centillion 100, do you know if your switch is supported? I have a FTP address here if you are interested for the binary.
