I would like to hook my Xbox 360 to my computer monitor. I need speakers that will output my computer sound and my 360 sound. I want a surround sound headset for my computer. What do I need to buy? I was thinking about this for the speakers, this for surround soundness, and then some kind of soundcard that can switch between outputting sound to the speakers to outputting sound to the headset. I need suggestions because I am a n00b to computer audio and I would like to spend as little as possible.

Do you have a set budget? There are a billion ways to do what you're asking, and the best way to do it is work according to what you can spend

Many people here, including myself, will tell you that "surround sound" headphones are superfluous and overall bad.

My budget is to spend as little as possible to get some kind of headset that I can differentiate rear sounds from front sounds in CSS. I also want to output sound to some speakers from my computer to listen to music. If I need a soundcard I will gladly purchase one. My max budget would be around $300 but the less I spend here, the more money I will spend on a new MB so less is better.

Well, since nobody has recommended any hardware, I guess I'll pick some and see if I am doing anything wrong. The hardware I am thinking about a Medusa 5.1 gamer headset for $120, an X-fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard for about $80, the Creative Gigaworks T20 speakers for Xbox gaming for $85, and finally, a cheap Y splitter to put the front sound output from the soundcard to my headset and my speakers. Would this be fine for my setup?

Is this setup fine? I need to know before I blow my money. I'm also not sure about the soundcard choice I made?
