is there some place in WinXp that lets me check it ??
how is it usually done ?

I don't know how to through windows but in the bios I was able to check it, just be careful. ;)
 
go to google and type motherboardmonitor 5, or mbm5

or you can an device that goes into your 5.25/3.5 bay with a temp guage on a wire that you place on the cpu manually. I do that because some times motherboards can detect incorrect temps
 
your motherboard supplier should also have a hardware monitor at their site.
