ComputerWorld has a five page article on how to browse the web anonymously. Most of this stuff is common knowledge but can be of use to new users that want to surf anonymously.

It's easier than ever for the government, Web sites and private businesses to track exactly what you do online, know where you've visited, and build up comprehensive profiles about your likes, dislikes and private habits. And with the federal government increasingly demanding online records from sites such as Google and others, your online privacy is even more endangered.

Interesting.. I just installed and am running Tor on my Vista Premium setup...

hard to really tell if it works but what I do know is that is makes the internet slow to a crawl.

Except all this stuff would be defeated should the government (or whoever, aliens?) just want to take the data going from your computer/router to the gateway of your ISP.
