How to apply chipset cooler

Need advice on how to apply these MCW30s on my 680i NB/SB. I killed my asus mobo by what was probably crushing the little pains in the asses, now I need to know how you guys do it. Do you put foam spacers underneath them? Do you just not tighten them very much? As is I understand it, all I have to do is have the blocks touch the thermal compound, but what about torquing from the tubing? won't that make the blocks wanna twist or turn while on the NB/SB?

Need help on this, I need to have this done in a timely manner or pain is going to come down hard on me.
 
Very carefully just like you torque down a head on an engine. Slow small twists of the hand and pay particular attention to the side of the board while you are doing this. This means put the blocks on with the MB out of the case.

I don't have your particular block, but mounting methods should be the same no matter what brand you are using.
 
I covered the green part of the wafer with 3 layers of electrical tape... It was about the same level of the die it's self.

But, uhm, I abandoned chipset waterblocks, I lost 3 Asus motherboards to them... The NF4 chipset died so easily.

The P965 one is a tank though... Mine was supplied to me chipped and it still worked properly (course, I sent it back for an RMA, again).
 
Well, that gave me a shiver. I've had mine on and off several times and never taken any care over it. Haven't done it any harm.... and yes it's an NF4 chipset.

Yeah, it was the freaking torque from the Tygon I used to use...

The pressure from that tubing is insane. Now, keep in mind this was my test system, that sees at least 4-5 components for testing a week :)
 
I'd better not start about Auqacomputer P&C being better. :p

But yeah, I know what you mean, we'd never put too much force on if we were working on that one particular part, but when you're doing something else.. that's when the accidents happen.

bwahaha. Yeah... Don't start the AC vs BB debate here ;).

I use Masterkleer tubing now, waaaaaay better than my old Tygon.
 
Seen someone talk about filling the tubing with salt, and then heating it to bend it into shape. Dunno if you want to try that, just a suggestion.

I would never introduce a perfect electrolyte into my main loop, but that DOES work really well with that cheap vinyl crap you buy at Home depot and similar stores. Boil it in very salty water, bend it to shape, the dip it in an icy water bath.

No need whatsoever for masterkleer tubing.
 
Ah, wasn't salt water I read about, just salt. I guess sand would do the same thing. The idea is to fill the tube so it won't kink when you bend it.
