I remember the first time I had to apply AC5 I used the credit card method and then the Ziploc/finger to smudge over the heatsink with my Athlon XP. My temperatures are a little on the high side because I think i might of applied it the wrong way. Is this method still good?

I've always used the 1/2 pea size dab in the middle of the IHS. It's always worked for me. This allows the TIM to spread to where it's needed. Then I give it a couple days to aclimatize itself before begining to over clock. Honestly I would recommend going to the Arctic Silver website and follow the direction they have there.

I just usually put a little dot in the middle and let the heat sink spread for me

OP there's no need to spread it all over the CPU like you did the Athlon XP. What has been suggested above works.

According to AS - the application method depends on the type of CPU installed. However - a half pea size in the center is basically fine. Just let the heatsink spread it out and if you get some goobing out of the side - you put on too much.
