Okay.

I've got a used Cisco 2503.

I bought the adapter to convert the AUI port to a Ethernet port.

I don't know the IP address of the router.

Newbie question, I know,

but how can I accces the CLLI ?

ok your going to need a console cable if you dont know the ip address one of the interfaces is configured with so you wont be able to telnet into it and you would not even know if telnet is enabled, so you going to need to get a console cable and pulg it into the console port on your router, launch hyper terminal and use these settings

9600
8
NONE
1
NONE

and it should come to a ROUTER> prompt press enter and if it asks you for a password you will need to do a password recovery i can also help you with

do you have a console cable?

Just to add...you'll also need a DB9(serial) to Ethernet converter to connect the console cable to your PC.

BTW, that's all up on cisco's site ;) I think you just search for "how to access cisco router" into a search engine and find the link for cisco's site.

Thank you very much,

I was able to access my 2501, 2621 router and my 1900 switches,

but somehow, I can't access my 2503 that way (serial to Ethernet cable using console port and COM1 on the PC)

Is there something different with these models ?

how exactly are you connecting?

what does it say when you connect?

I'm connecting using Hyperterminal using my PC on COM1.

With a SERIAL to ETHERNET cable, I connect my PC (COM1) to the ETHERNET (Console) plug in my router.

Hyperterminal says it IS connected,

but nothing appears on the screen (no BOOT-UP sequence from the router)

I bought the router USED so there MAY be something wrong with the router.

Or maybe it's just the operating system missing from the router ?

ok firs thing i would try is changing the hyper terminal settings, leave everything the same but turn off flow control, i had this problem once before, tinker around with he flow control and see if anything comes up

next thing i would do it connect another cisco device a 2500 would be ok to the same network your 2503 is on or just connect it with a back to back cable, give it an ip address and see if CDP is working, from a router you have working do a ROUTER# Show cdp neighbors and a Show CDP neighbors detail and see if your 2503 shows up in the cdp table

however your 2503 may have had cdp disabled in that case it wont work

even nothing at all shows up when you boot the router its probally more than it just not havong an IOS since you would still see it post

Definitely play with the Baud rates. It's 9600 99% of the time, but I had ONE 1801 that someone had set the rate to 115200 and I was banging my head for like an hour trying to Hyperterm in. Then on a whim, I started going up each baud rate, and eventually got my console prompt.
