There is an interesting article posted over at The Washington Post about how the Pentagon got its shape. Good Memorial Day reading for those of you stuck in front of a PC today.

The War Department needed a new headquarters, Somervell said. The building he wanted to create was too big to fit in Washington and would have to go across the Potomac River in Arlington. It would be far larger than all the great structures of the city, including the U.S. Capitol. Somervell wanted a headquarters big enough to hold 40,000 people, with parking for 10,000 cars.

Very cool story! What they didn't say was why/when they decided to just refer to it as the Pentagon...

I'm not STUCK in front of a PC today .... I'm gonna enjoy my profit roll ins after spending way too much money yesterday to try and resale what was bought ;)

Bush 43 says:
When our Founders declared a new order of the ages; when soldiers died in wave upon wave for a union based on liberty; when citizens marched in peaceful outrage under the banner "Freedom Now" - they were acting on an ancient hope that is meant to be fulfilled.

Bush 41 says:
Now, we can see a new world coming into view. A world in which there is the very real prospect of a new world order. In the words of Winston Churchill, a "world order" in which "the principles of justice and fair play ... protect the weak against the strong ..." A world where the United Nations, freed from cold war stalemate, is poised to fulfil the historic vision of its founders.
