How tall

Quick question... I'm looking at purchasing a new laptop between now & Christmas but have a size height requirement.

This laptop would be for my model train room and will sit on my workbench. But the problem is I only have 10 and 3/4 inch tall between my workbench and the bottom of my layout.

I currently have a 15" HP and it's 10 and 1/2 tall so just barely fits in the space. I'm looking at a couple of 16" laptops but I can't find out how tall it is from the top of the desk to the top of the screen.

Can someone please measure one and post just how tall it is?

Thanks, Budman

theyre not all the same though... what models are you looking at? their specs should list it.

I'm not sure if they specify the height when they are open, though.
its usually on their spec pages, LxWxH, some show pics with the dimensions. another problem im seeing is lots of 16s have moved to 16:10 so theyre taller...

That's generally the dimensions of the laptop when it's closed though, but you're right, sometimes they'll show how tall it is in pictures.

These are off of Costco's website. I don't see where they list the dimensions.

So that laptop is 9.88" tall when it's opened as it appears in the pictures that when the lid is open, it's flush with the bottom.

those are weird ways of listing them... it should be the H+D then, tops too tall, bottoms fine.
just noticed the screens are flush, the D should be the total height.

So I'm confused... how did you come up with 9.88 on the HP?

yes.
he didnt mention the HP, he said "so that laptop"

I turned my model train room into a server room with a smaller train inside of it and it's grand. I also am happy with the broader availability of 16:10 these days. We've thought about making an o27 or garden train style system for our cats and puppies to ride on for their amusement but so far it's just places for cats to jump when the dogs get a little nippy in their old age and as puppies.

The height opened should be the same as the length front to back when closed, plus an inch or two (depending on how thick the laptop is and kind of hinge used, and if it has feet on the bottom).
