How quiet is this?

I own one. My advice... get a Zalman or something.

The aeroflow is a decent cooler (especially after I lapped it). However, the TMD fan makes a LOT of vibration because of the torque it has. For a 70mm fan, it moves almost 40cfm...which is pretty good from what I've seen...and when it's not attached to anything, the fan noise isn't THAT loud...it's just loud when you attach it to the HS and the vibration passes to the rest of your case.

Actually though, with the P4P800 and Q-Fan enabled, my Antec 120mm case fan is louder (soon to be replaced by a couple Stealth 120mm's).

that rated dBa level is quite loud
i agree with the above poster with the Zalman :D
IMHO, it has to be less than 25dBa to be "quiet"

that it a dumb idea since the air will travel through the gap. just get a zalman or sp-94 with panaflo
im not sure what an "o ring" is but a rubber washer is to absorb the shock or vibration that the fan will put onto the case (causing a rumbling noise) thus, making less noise

so if an "o ring" is the same thing as the rubber washer then its NOT a dumb idea

No, not an o-ring.

If you're concerned about the gap creating turbulence (it certainly wouldn't hinder regular airflow significantly) then you could use a rubber gasket.

I am using a rubber "gasket" and it still generates tons of vibration. I made the gasket from a foam rubber mousepad. no gaps, plenty squishy, and did make a very noticeable difference in the vibration...but didn't get rid of it.

My next purchase may be a Zalman... Or make an adapter for an 80mm fan to use on the aeroflow heatsink.
