How often should SSDs be replaced?

I have an 80GB of the second gen Intel X25 that I started using as my boot drive 3-4 years ago. Should I be looking at swapping it out now? Or how long do you guys keep yours before you start worrying about failure?
 
Unless you have used up all the erase cycles, there is no need to replace it.

Use the Intel SSD utility to check it if you are unsure. But unless you have used it extremely heavily, it should have plenty of life left.
 
Trimmed and set up right, with no extremely excessive use, drive should perform almost as good as new.

My 80GB Intel G1 SSD in my HTPC (which gets more writes than an average PC) has 95% life left in (according to Intels wear out indicator) it after nearly 4 years of 24/7 usage. So I am not at all worrying about wearing it out or any of my other SSDs. This however is not to say that it will not die from some non wear out related problem.
 
According to the reviews of ssd's on this forum the average is 10 gb or less a day.
 
An average is an ordinal number, not a range. Do you have a link to such a review on this forum? I'm very interested in learning how the figure was established and why it is believed to be correct.

There are tools in Windows and Linux that let you log the writes to disks. You should monitor your writes for a week. Then, go look at the manufacturer rated lifetimes for the SSDs. Some SSD are rated for 50TB or a number of erase cycles. Either way, there is enough information to determine the "write capacity" in TB for an SSD and then determine how long it will last based on YOUR OWN USAGE.
 
If you have a decent backup and can afford a couple hours of downtime - When it dies

If you don't have a backup or can't afford any downtime - Why the hell would you be running your machine off a single drive?
 
The only time you should be worried about SSD's hitting EOL is if you are using desktop drives in a server that has tons of I/O. So something like a database server... other than that you are probably ok for years and years.
