How noisy is the 750 GB hd the 7200.10 from seagate?

The reviews say it is very noisy but how noisy is that.

I want to get a big hd but based on the newegg review it seems like 400 gb is quiet and above that it is noisy.

StorageReview says 41.1 dB/A at 3 millimeters. That's pretty quiet, but the WD5000KS series is quieter than anything else out (barring solid state :p) if you don't need the 750GB/disk capacity. Take a look at the graphs for a while, then consider the definition of decibels and 3mm for a while, then pick one. Cool it and power it well and any drive will serve you well.

so the 750 gb isnt really that noisy?

are you sure so what is up with all that newegg reviews?

The idle noise is quite low; however the seeks are a little noisier than most. Mounting the drive with rubber vibration dampers will help quiet it, but if you want a drive that's really quiet the WD5000KS (500 gigs for $167 shipped) is your best bet.

As a side note, I trust the reviews on Newegg slightly more than the Nigerian businessmen in my email. Very slightly. 90% of everything is crap, and Newegg has a lot of reviews that are done on the spur of the moment by people inexperienced with writing reviews. Do the math ;)

The WD is a great buy. A great Bang for the buck/GIG is the Samsung Spinpoint T series, I got a 400gb from newegg for $100...thats pretty good. its about as quiet too, and it my coolest drive...

ya i am thinking of getting hte 400 gb one just because the reviews say it is quiet.

the ones higher have a bunch of mix reviews.

donno i might get 2 raptor drive and do raid 0 for games and os. if hybrid drives are not even better.

still stuck in what to get for hds.

everything else in my list is set and storned unless something better comes out before vista really get released.
