How much Power Needed

Bidding on GTX 580 x4 with 4 way sli bridge and water blocks all included + 4 water pumps how much Power Supply power will I need?

You'll need 1,000w for just the GPUs. So 1500w with pumps, cpu, motherboard, ram, drives, and a little margin to keep the PSU from being run balls to the wall when running at full load.

Question is, why would you want to buy such old hardware that two 980 Ti's could easily outpace while using a lot less power doing it?

For gaming you'd actually be better off with just one 980ti.

Actually thinking about it for modern (current gen) gaming even something lower end then the 980ti would likely give a better experience due to VRAM limitations and multi-gpu support/scaling/frame consistency issues.

Unless you're doing CUDA or other compute work, 4 580s is a bad choice. Especially with very crappy scaling at 3 and 4 cards.

Ugh! A single 980Ti would be a much better option than 4x 580's as others have pointed out. Way less power use and heat output and loads more VRAM. Scaling beyond 2 cards starts to get pretty crappy when it comes to SLI... especially going to that 4th card. If you are going to spend that much, go with a single 980Ti... You can always add a 2nd one later if their isn't enough ummph to satisfy you. Nowhere to go after 4x 580's...
