I built a 2TB RAID5 file server several months ago and I noticed it was getting corrupted files when copying so I tested both memory sticks and one worked ok, one made errors. I removed the bad one and all was well for a few weeks. Then the server started crashing every week and needed a reboot. Then it started crashing every couple days and would not even boot unless it was left powered off for ~24 hours. OK so bad memory or chipset or something? I swapped the mobo (SIS chipset for Intel chipset) and I swapped the "Centon" memory for Corsairs. OK great! it's working fine for a whole week and now today it has crashed 3 times and rebooted itself 1 time. It comes straight online again after a reboot unlike with the old mobo.

Specs:

Asus P4P800E-Deluxe
2x 512mb Corsairs valueram DDR400 @533fsb
P4 2.4ghz 533fsb
1x 40GB IDE O/S drive
8x Western Digital 320GB SATA
RocketRAID 1820A controller card.
2U Rackmount case.
Using onboard 10/100/1000 LAN @ 100mbit
460w Emacs PSU (came with case).

I upgraded the bios on the old mobo (P4S800-MX) and it works fine now in another machine, seems it was detecting the wrong memory timings.

What the heck is the problem with it?? the only thing left to change really is the PSU so I'm thinking I should try a 550w?
 
I'm sorry but this is slightly off-topic: which rackmount case do you use that supports 8 sata bays?
 
Honestly, I know I say this alot, but it sounds like the PSU is going.. :(

Just my guess :rolleyes:
