At some point its going to stop making sense to add more cores until RAM catches up. I would think that at some point you have so many cores that Ram cant supply data fast enough. leaving a few cores at idle. I know Intel is working on some Tera-core type chip, but I havent looked much into it, I dont know if its just a tech demo or just a concept. either way I cant imagine it being used with current Ram technology. so for now just how much is enough?

^^ exactly - ram is fast access storage - your system loads information into it and can access it faster than it can information off of your hard drive - that is why the OS loads the program into ram because it responds faster so really ram is just fine

The real problem is most applications do not make benefit of multiple cores - so even though you have 2 or 4 or 8 it matters not since 98% of programs only can use 1 efficiently

is there a way to know if a program can use/is using more than 1 core efficiently? or is there a way to tell/set it up so that it does?
