wasap [h]orde! hopefully, im going to be building a new pc over the course of the next few weeks. im going to be getting a dell e207wfp monitor with a native res of 1680 x 1050. i was wondering what kinds of frames i would be getting at this res and high-highest settings with the following rig:

e6400 @ the highest speed i can go without changing volts (had a BAD experience on my p4 :()
evga 680i
2gb ddr2 800
evga or pny 8800gts

i plan to play mostly company of heroes, oblivion, and quake 4 on this rig, so if any of you that already have 8800s can tell me what to expect, that would be fantastic.

I'd read a few of the million reviews to get a good idea but you can be sure that the GTS with C2D will cope admirably with that resolution.

sounds good, and when it slows down later next year you can throw another 8800gts in for sli fun!

The 8800 with that resolution should have absolutely no issue caping with that resolution.

As for the fun of the system, lacking quad-core CPU power would mean I wouldn't have as much fun doing DVD rips on it as my planned build, but if gaming is your thing, looks like a solid setup, I would recommend a couple changes though:

bump to a 24" monitor, that resolution on a widescreen sort of sucks for desktop stuff, I am getting cramped with my 1600x1200 4:3 which has overall more pixels than yours, and with an SLI board you can always add a second GPU down the road when games need it.

Also, go for an X-fi LiveMusic soundcard, you can pick one up for less than $100 and it is a lot better than onboard sound.

perhaps i should have posted the rest of the build:

x-fi xtrememusic
320gb seagate
lite-on 16x dvd burner w/ lightscribe
logitech x-530 5.1 speakers

the dell is the best size:price ratio ive seen. 20.1" at newegg are $260 at the absolute cheapest, and this dell is a pretty good monitor, especially for $246. besides, i only have so much desk space. my current 17" 4:3 ratio barely fits the way i have it set up right now, so i'll need to rearrange everything to fit a 20.1".
