I just won an ebay auction for a similar processor. Its a SL5ZH 1.40 GHz 478 pin, 1.3v, 400 MHz bus.

So my question is now what do I do with it? I've never owned a p4, and would like to know where to start. I'd like to find a cheap $20-30 mobo and do some overclocking, maybe even experiment with dry ice. What should I look for and what should I expect?

a P4 and a PM are completely different. If you have a PM your not going to find a cheap motherboard.

Whatever you do don't try to drop in a P4 S478 board (though the keying should be obviously different)

cheapest bet is:

Asus CT-479
and:
Asus P4P800-SE

You may be better overclocking out of a P4C800 series board too. But they're a bit more spendy. Decent overclocking PCI-E boards for the Pentium M are pretty much non-existant. :(
 
Here is a link to the intel spec sheet. I assume its a Pentium M. It says the pin count is 478? This is an old proc, not the new pentium M-735 type stuff. Maybe the link I have can sort this out more. Thanks.
 
thats a p4-m, not a p-m. theyre different. there was the mobile p4-m, the mobile p4, and the p-m. the p4-m's are p4 northwoods with a low vcore, mobile p4's are basically a desktop chip in a laptop with a lower FSB, and the p-m is a different chip line. the p4-m and mobile p4 can normally drop into normal desktop boards, just depends on the bios.
 
Whats a good cheap mobo or chipset for my p4-m? I'd like to toy with overclocking this for as cheap as possible.
