Hey there,

I will be getting a laptop soon and I'm contemplating selling my current Dell desktop.

I was just wondering how much you think I could get for it, or what would be a resonable price.

Specs:

Dell Dimension 4550
Intel P4 Processor @ 2.4 Ghz
768 MB PC2700 memory (no specific brand)
Sapphire Radeon 9600 XT
60 GB 7,200 rpm HD (original from Dell)
80 GB 7,200 rpm Western Digital with 8 MB cache
HP CD-RW (9700 series is what it says)
Intel Pro 100M Integrated PCI NIC Card
56K PCI Telephony Modem for Windows
48X Max Variable CD-ROM Drive
SoundBlaster Live! with 5.1 Support

I paid $700 for everything but the 9600XT ($150), extra 512 MB memory ($60), 80 gig HD (basically for free from the OM deal a while back), and the CD-RW which I already had.

Any thoughts?

Should I keep my monitor when I bring my laptop to college, or would it just be a waste of desk space? If not, I would like to sell it as well. It's a Samsung 753DF 17" CRT.

If you sell it to a non-computer savvy person, maybe $700 - 800 without the monitor.

About the monitor: if you don't have intentions of ever using it again or have thoughts of buying something bigger in the future (like say, an LCD or larger CRT), then I'd say you should sell it with the system. Probably $60 for the monitor if you sell it, but I have no idea what it costs new?

Well it's kind of like this. If you sell it to a non-computer savy person like Bill Lee said then $700 sounds like a fair price :) Your monitor is only worth about $140 give or take. I would suggest putting it as a bundle.
 
Check out the latest Dell deal and price it accordingly by comparing the specs of it to yours. If it gets hard to sell as a complete package I would try parting some stuff out, but don't part it out so much that you can't sell it as a whole computer. Depending on how much you paid for the monitor and how much your looking to get $140 is gonna be a very hard sell. Even $100 would be a hard sell unless it's new/you have the box. It's a Dell so it will be hard to sell considering most "non-[H] type" people would rather just buy it direct from Dell unless maybe u still have some of the warranty left on it.
 
If you can't sell it as a whole system... go the For Sale/Trade forum and sell it individually. You might not make as much, but it is a thought
 
REplace the video card with an entry level cheapy. Most people buying a rig like yours wont care about gaming performance. reduce memroy level to say 512 and offer it for 449.00.

Once you have a bite you can then offer incrimental upgrades to your customer and then message it all the way to 700 "including labor for the upgrades" You see its all in how youpresent your product.
