How much for a system with these specs?

A neighbor of mine is selling his system for cash, I'm thinking of buying it and since I'm not up on current prices would like to know what you guys think this system might be worth.

The specs:

2.6 gigahertz pentium, has a largish heatsink
motherboard is a Foxconn Socket 478--don't know the model
case is made by Apex, 350W power supply
20GB hard drive (brand is Western Digital I believe)
512 MB DDR memory
DVD burner , 4x speed I think (Benq brand)
High-end sound card, not sure of the make/model, but it has 5.1 sound
128MB video card, a Geforce FX5200 (brand is eVGA)
17-inch Gateway CRT monitor
XP Pro (turn out it is a legit copy)
one of those all-in-one card reader things


That's about it I think. The guy put this together himself, he wants $500 but I know he will take less (he needs cash ASAP).

check how much this stuff is worth at ebay and do the math... lol at "high-end sound card" - basic (and cheap) CMedia based sound cards have 5.1 support..

lol $500 is good if it isnt a celeron but the gateway monitor? is it a gateway thats baadd,get as cheap as you can that system could probably be had brand new from dell anyway for $500 i dunno ill go check

You say 2.6 pentium... I'm assuming that's a P4. I'd go slightly lower than 500 for that system. It's used after all... and that HDD really sucks.

I buy used computers daily and I wouldn't pay more then $250.00 for it if even that. I just bought a similuar system for $150.00 with a 21" sony trin.

Oh ya back on the topic no $500 is too much. At least $280-330

I run a computer biz so I get many chances to buy a old computer off my customers heh plus I live in a small town and everyone does meth or drinks and they need money for it.
