How Much Does Security Software Slow Down Your PC?

I have never used an Anti Virus program. Honestly I don't really see the point. I don't need a program to tell me what I should and shouldn't download. The weakest link in computer security is the end user, and always will be.
 
I tried reading the full article but didn't see anything about encryption so I stopped reading.

Encryption absolutely kills my work comp's performance, taking an SSD that normally reads at 450+MB/sec to 45Mb/sec...

just flat-out horrible performance...

It's the only software I run and it works fine for my type of usage. For someone who gets infected all the time it's certainly not enough protection.
