Alright since im in california and my utility bill is already $470 I'm concerned about ordering a prometia. How much does this thing constantly draw compared to say watercooling ? Also is it even worth going Mach II I can't really see spending $1k but $550ish isnt that bad (it's only for cpu right ? no split to run on vidcard too ? =( ? )

Bump.

Heh I also want to hear what the experts have to say about this. If I can ever afford it, I might go with this cooling solution too.

I've also wondered this. I wanted to build my own phase change with an A/C unit, but uh... I'd think the power costs would just be crazy. Maybe the prommie uses less power, but I doubt it?

I hope someone can answer this :)

ok they use the same ammount of electrcity as your fridge in the kitchen. So it will not be a huge spike on your bill.

I was thinking that, but the fridge only kicks on every now and then to keep things cool... There is nothing producing heat the whole time, and it doesn't run 24/7. My deep freeze in the basement is designed in such a way that if the power goes out, the food will still be good for up to 3 days. A prommie won't keep your CPU cool for 3 days without kicking on, because the CPU produces heat all the timing, causing the compressor to run all the time...

Or is this a fact, that they use the same amount of electricity as a fridge? I assumed you were just comparing the two.

Forgive me if I'm wrong :p

lol... good advice

Compare it more to running a big AC. Those are on a lot.

anyhow if anyone wants some good vapor cooling action I am selling my vapochill for 600 shipped. its a xe unit so its pretty good and for a good price, i have used it only for about 3 weeks now.

well 'anyhow' - Since this isnt the for sale forum I'll point out a much better deal. Under 500 from kit-tronics.com for a NEW machI. The XE kind of sucks by comparison. The compressor is small... and it should be... stupid thing runs of your rails. Only thing going for the unit is that it uses R404A albeit with a tiny compressor, but it still cant topple the prometia.

There is an vapochill LS model to be released that is a prommie in a lian li clone. Soon to make the XE very undesirable. Doesnt run off the rails and more powerful. Sorry to offend but I have to point the [H]'ers in the right direction. The XE is not it. Use the info to your advantage rather than get pissed and sell it quick.

i've heard that at very max a promie uses about 100w so if you compare that to leaving on 2 or 3 lightbulbs 24/7 that'll give you an idea of power consumption.

About to order one would like one last confirmination on this. My power bills are very high at least this would allow me to run the ac less.

I just got my MACH II tonight...wOOt!!! I will let you know in amonth how the bill is...;)

There was a guy on xtreme systems with home built phase change cooling (made from a window A/C unit). He said running it 10 hours a day cost him 50 dollars a month extra on his electric bill. I believe he was in California, though not sure.

my electric bill is like 40 bucks a month with me and my gf with both our computers on 24/7 in a house.

haha no all stock cooled except this. That's just good old California and PG&E for ya. Theyll rape since you dont have an alternative.
