hi, I mostly do gaming and want to overclock my processor for better gameplay. I was wondering how far anyone has pushed a 2.4;with what cooling and how far with it still running totally stable? The procedure you took in overclocking it would be really helpfull too. Thanks alot for the help.

3.3 is where i'm at with 2 of them at 1.6 actual volts! ...I just want to ran 270fsb 1:1 with my DFI I have coming.

go to www.cpuid.com and download cpuz

check to see if you have a m0 revision, if you do youve got yourself an almost garanteed overclock. my m0 will do 3.5@ 1.6v. almost all 2.4c's can do 3.2, some can get as high as 3.6

Or the M0 could have been a dud chip that couldn't break 3.2.

Anyways, highest I've overclocked my 2.4 is about 3.3 Ghz at 1.50 volts with a Zalman AlCu7000

yes, this is true. m0's are p4ee's that either failed the frequency test or the cache test.

I'm @ 3.3 on air @ 1.5625v. 30C idle, 50c Prime95 x2. Great chip, she'll do 3.4 (at least) 100% stable in everything BUT Prime95 @ 1.60v. So I think water would get me Prime stable at 3.4+. Beyond that, who knows...

Best $168 I've spent.

**Update 6/5/04**

Water cooloing got me to 3.4 dual prime stable.

3.42 and climbing here, 100% stable at 1.55 volts (AI7 undervolts that slightly, so it is closer to stock), water cooled with an RBX, 31 Idle, 35 with primex2. I love this chip, if it could cook and clean, I would marry it.

edit- It is an M0

thanks for all the help guys. i really apreciate it. i dont have the money to get water cooling right now so i was also wondering what fan i should use and if you used any programs to OC or just did it manually. thanks again

The Thermalright SP-94 heatpipe heatsink, w/a 92mm Vantec Thermoflow fan, and ArcticSilver 5 thermo compound (t/c).

This package dropped the temperature of my o/c'd 2.4C (3.0 GHz) from a temperature high of over 80C, under load using the standard, no copper insert, retail Intel HSF, to 60C.

As for setting the o/cing, you do that in the bios w/a good overclockable m/b such as Abit's IC-7 series.

By the way, my 2.4C, D1 revision, will go higher than 3.0C, but at the expense of my memory performance. At my present settings of 12x 250; 5:4; 2,5,2,3; 1.525v; I get a Sandra Memory Bandwidth Benchmark of 5504/5502, using 512 meg Kingston HyperX PC3500 DDR.

I got my 2.4B almost to 3.1ghz @1.75 volts. i was using the stock heatsink and a ic-7. seems good except for the fact that the FSB is only at 171. with my is-7 not G (one of the first ones with the messed up audio and the gigabit ether on it) it would only get up to 2.8 stable. I got my whole setup around 2 weeks before the canterwoods were released, so now i am just waiting till the new socket processors are released to upgrade at all.

my ic7-g has a screwed up gigabit on it, is that whats wrong with mine???

btw: i bought my board from newegg refurbished and its a v1.0 board. im rma'ing it this week.

Some guy on Bit-tech got to 3.8 with 300-ish fsb with this chip. Don't know what kind of cooling though, probably water.

i got a 2.4 m0 that is running at 3.25 right now, i know it will do 3.3 but i like to keep the ram running 1:1 at 271fsb

i got mine to 3.5 on a thermaltake spark5+ and volts at damn can't recall

but know that the 2.4c has alot of head room.

@ 3.4 here with my 2.4c Watercooled stable with prime for the last 6 months and still going strong.
But about 3.0 to 3.2 is very easy with most the 2.4c's and the right ram!

mine does 3.6 with 1.6v aircooled, I can run any benchmarks. However, it doesnt like to run Prime95 for long periods of time. Plus it ran kinda hot... about 63C under 100% load. (with better cooling and a mobo that could handle over 300FSB it might do much more)

It actually will boot at 3.6 at default voltage, but it needed a little bit more juice for stability.

So lately I've been running it at 3.45Ghz at 1.55v and it runs much cooler.

I have an early M0 that does 3.5GHz @ 1.65-1.67v on quiet air (Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu). I can get it to boot at 3.6, but it's real flakey. What I'd like to do is scoop a gig of the Adata DDR600 and watercool it to 3.6/300 with the RAM at 1:1. That would be the shiznat. ;)

I can get mine to 3.1ghz on watercooling. The problem is i'm using PC2100 ram so I can't push the overclock any higher until I get better ram.

Mine can hit 3.2ghz on the stock Intel cooler @ 1.5v. It will run like that for a week and then require a reboot. Runs at 3ghz just fine. Looking to get a CNPS7000 sometime soon and kick it to 3.2 all the time. My PC2700 RAMD runs @ 400 when I have it at 3ghz, and about 190 when i run it at 3.2.

I'm sure it can go higher if I ever get up off my ass and buy a new cooler.

The question was for 2.4Cs :p

Read sig. I've got some more headroom actually but I figure there's not really a need to push it.

ummm that was my 2.4C. With my 3.0C, I get 3.9ghz on air.

Heres a shot of my 2.4C to prove it.

I had my 2.4C at 3.3 ghz (said had because i am going to wait until I get a better heatsink so i am running cpu at stock speed)

the motherboard is an Asus P4P800, 1.5 gb of PC3200 Corsair ram ( the value select one)

on idle i had temperatures of 49 degrees C with an old MCX462-U swiftech heatsink

all i did to get that overclock, was to increase the FSB to 281 mhz and increase the voltage to 1.575 (something like that cant remember)

by the way, what voltage value is not a safe one?

when i increased it to the value named above, the pc probe was reading a voltage of 1.63 votls (weird)

hey computerpro3, your statements are not consistent, first you said 3.8, now you said 3.9...

well, i've ran the most 3.78 on stock lapped heatsink at 315FSB. But it's not stable due to my Apacer PC3200 rams. They are not OC friendly.

my CPU voltage is at 1.55V in windows, 1.60V in BIOS

temps were about 4C above normal...

also, to computerpro3, are you OC through the software or in Bios? because as i know when you go above 300+FSB, your AGP speed will increase eventhough you set it locked in the BIOS (that is why seldom see people OC above 300). And Ati cards are sensitive to the OC, and it tends to locked during windows startup. the last person i seen OC 2.4 was at 350FSB on peltz, but he uses PCI video card if i'm not mistaken

The m0 is pretty good. I know some guy who runs his 2.4C@3.8Ghz. Beating up on a prescott :D .. Don't know the stepping though.

Friend runs his at:

2.4c @ 3.4 , 1.6V i think
Asus P4P800-dlx
2x512MB Corsair XMS PC3200 (unsure settings on this one)

For him, 3.4 is stable, and 3.5 is not. YMMV.

OCed my 2.4 @ 3.06 - highest stable OC i can get at stock voltage. haven't up vcore yet. good results though. :)

average is 3.2 - 3.4Ghz. You'll hear some 3.6 and even higher, but the average is 3.2 - 3.4 which is still pretty damn good. 1Ghz free!

my ram craps out around a 3.6ghz -- 300 FSB w/ 3:2 divider. NEED FASTER/BETTER RAM!!!

290fsb.gif

290fsbram.gif

does ram/mobo just not like going to 3:2? cause at 290 FSB CPU is at 1.575v, but after i switch to a 3:2 divider(up to 300FSB, won't boot past 302)) i've hit 1.725v and it won't stay stable at all.

my temps stay <52C under full load @ 290FSB. 2xprime 95 in place tests. so more volts probalby won't hurt.

everyone uses dividers like 5:4 and 3:2 to get so high. I've got mine running 292mhz @ 1:1. IC7-Max3 super modded and memory pushing its limits. I think its the cooling that I need, gettin a vapo to find out. Looking to get a 3.0ghz or 3.2ghz to overclock.

DONT LET THESE LYING BASTARDS FOOL YOU!!!!

my 2.4c maxes out at a whoppong 2.5 ghz with mushkin pc3500 level 2, an is7, and all the volts i can give it

seriously, nobody should buy a chip simply because other people have good ones

your luck most likely wont be as terrible as mine, but dont get your hopes up either
