How Much Can One Pump Do?

Would one pump be able to cool CPU, GPU, HDD, North Bridge, and possible the system memory as well? Or would it take multiple pumps/radiators to do? Thanks, I am trying to learn all I can about water cooling before I start :)

First, you don't really NEED to cool hard drives, unless you run like raptors or scsi. Memory can be cooled by a single fan. And Depending on the pump, even with the nb, chipset, hdd, gpu, hdd, memory, everything, it should do it just fine. I don't recommend the hdd or memory coolers though.

my humble opinion is .. you don't need ... hdd, ram, or nb water cooling ..

the best performance comes from big rads strong pumps and restrictive blocks...

Whether you need one or more pumps depends on the head pressure/heat dump of the pump you choose. Also, like Bbq mentioned, you don't really need to cool the HD/RAM. Maybe if you have some 15,000 RPM HD that gets extremely hot and you want to preserve it as long as you can and lower noise, then water could be a good choice. However, it's NOT WORTH cooling regular 7,200 RPM Hds with water

As for the RAM, again, not really worth it when you can put a $5 D12SL-12 Yate Loon over it (can be bought at Jab-Tech) Also, the more blocks you put in, the higher the chance of one block leaking.
 
Alright, thanks. But it would be a good idea to cool the chipsets right? And are Koolance water blocks good quality?
 
i would say no and no..

northbridges don't need to be water cooled .. the performance gain is minimal and the restriction you add to the loop will decrease your water setups performance ...

i've never read anything good about koolance blocks and have never heard them mentioned as a serious performance contender...

It's not a good idea unless you have like a DFI Ultra-D/Expert and want to change the noisy chipset fan out....

yea..the Vantec Iceberq seems not bad and much cheaper than some of those other heatsink/fans for the NB.
 
thermalright makes that heatpipe on that PWNS


there one other heatpipe one that uses a 60mm fan but i forget who makes it

The NB typically gets quite hot and the NB fans provided by most MB manufacturers are worthless. That is why you see SLI geared NB H20 coolers.
If you are going to OC a NB cooler is a necessity.

Every place I've looked in my journey for watercooling enlightenment has advised against cooling the NB with a waterblock. Granted, if your running an SLI system, I hear it can get very hot but there are very good aftermarket air chipset coolers that can do just as well. Most stock NB coolers are total crap and have the worst TIM thats dried and flakey by the time the board gets to you.
 
My x1900xtx owns the northbridge on my DFI Ultra-d. Get your cpu/gpu block then test to see if you need one. If your nb is not going over like 48c while benchmarking w/ your stuff OCed then I would not worry about it too much. I am setting up my WC this week and with the heat issues I have had with my nb I went ahead and got a block for it.

can you link me to an sli geared nb cooler ... what's the difference between a nb cooler and a sli gear nb cooler ...

how much cpu and gpu cooling performance do you lose by adding restrictive nb h20 blocks...

can you overclock a nb to 500 if watercooled?

that is unless you have a Express3200 chipset and it runs cool with a passive heatsink!
