I'm looking to start on water cooling my 800D. I'm starting with the CPU for now then I will expand the loop to include the chipset and the 6XXX series or Fermi 2 cards when they are released.

With a high quality thick 360 rad, can I cool my CPU, chipset and two video cards on one loop efficiently?
I understand stand the GPUs may be slightly warmer since they are at the end of the loop, but by how much?
 
ok, I thought so too but wanted to make sure. I really don't want to cut my 800D because I switch cases often and it will kill the resale value. One loop may not be as cool but it can do the job I hope.
 
You could go with a triple on top and a dual or single on the bottom, or even a single in place of the back exhaust fan.

I'm not a WC expert, but from what I've gathered from my lurking the actual order isn't critical. Just get it done with the least amount of tubing required because it will all equilibrate at a certain delta above ambient. I would probably avoid putting the CPU after the video card, but that goes against what I just said...

I would probably do a triple to the vid card and a double to the cpu and chipset if you have the space or just do one big loop with all of it. Chipset to single rad seems way, way overkill and single rad seems under for a cpu.

Yeah, that's definitely the best way to go if you want to do 3x+1x rad setup. Or you can go with a dual rad on the bottom.
 
haha whoops, totally misread your post. I thought each of those lines was a separate suggestion, which makes no sense when read that way. Yeah, what you have there looks good.
 
You can go single on both the exhaust and intake, which would effectively give you a double without having to cut up your case.

I'm in the same boat. I never cut up my cases because I've never kept one more than a year. Still searching for that perfect chassis.
 
Then I will have three rads. Not good.

OK now I need to start shopping for a 360 rad and CPU waterblock.

Which pump is better for a loop that has a thick 360 rad, 120 rad, CPU, chipset and video cards? Will a single bay reservoir/pump combo do the job?
 
Do what I'm doing. Put a 140 rad on the bottom, it will fit. With the 360 up top.
 
Good luck on your water cooling endeavor. Man I have had my parts for about a month, and kept having to buy different things due to lack of planning. Finally got up to my first leak test and it was a terrible experience. I can't stress this enough, if you are new to water cooling, plan plan plan! And stay away from the tygon 5/8OD tubing, it really kinks easily, even though I heard tygon was the best brand to get and I thought 5/8 would be enough. My recommendation is 3/4 OD tubing so it doesn't kink. Sorry if you already thought this through, I just don't want to see someone else go through what I did. I have read forum posts on overclock.net that say never to use a bay res. They are hard to bleed and develop air bubbles often, and if they leak it's a catastrophe. Maybe someone who has actually used a bay res effectively can chime in here.

Do not waste your money on the 3-rad/10-pump/60-res syndrome that's floating around on all forums lately......

Plan proper, buy a quality 360 rad, a good pump, and proper 7/16" tubing, and you're good to go.

If anyone else tells you different, well, I'm running a 240 Feser rad, and cool 2x quadcore Xeons, running 3.2gigs, as well as a hot-as-hell ATi 4870X2 on that setup - and everything runs very normal, even in Melbourne, Australia 40+ deg C summers.

So, there you have it, enjoy the extra space in your case - that would otherwise have been occupied by all those unnecessary other radiators :)
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not going into it now. I'm still planning. I'll have my complete parts list sometime in September. I was thinking about a bay reservoir but if it's hard to bleed and prone to leaks, I'll go with the traditional setup. Does Swiftech still have the best water blocks?

This is an excellent budget water block that I recently purchased. The one I got offa ebay leaked. I will let you know once my loop is complete what kind of temps I get on my i7.
I would suggest you read the newegg reviews and see what people think, or if someone on here could chime in with their own experiences. It is about 1/2 to 1/3 less expensive than high end block, and AFAIK the temp difference isn't huge, but google reviews on it if you want to consider it.

"Unnecessary" is certainly subjective in this situation. More radiator generally leads to lower temperature. Does the OP need 4x120x120mm+ to run his hardware? No, but more radiator might help him get slightly higher overclocks.
 
You should check out Skinnee labs and see how many radiators you will need to dissipate XXXX watts of heat. I believe one feser 360 with 3 fans pulling at 1800+ rpm can dissipate like 500W of heat or something if memory serves.

Very nicely put Oxygenthief. Funny to see him already treading waters already and dropping advice and promoting reviews from a cheater. Amazes me how some people think that some of us are ill informed and not aware of their shenanigans and just expect us to turn a blind eye and forgive and forget.

Honestly, with that setup, you're looking at least at a 120.4 or 120.5 radiator to cool all of them efficienly. With that in mind, the best course would be to buy a 120.3 for your cpu then when you're ready to add video cards, just grab a 120.1 or 120.2 to be added in the loop.
 
Is it true that it doesn't really matter what the order of your loop is if you have multiple rads, or should you always plan to have your loop run through radiators before running through separate components? In other words, you should have (rad-->GPU-->rad-->CPU and not rad-->rad-->GPU-->CPU)?

I thought I read that the temperature of water at any given point in the loop should be similar to the temperature anywhere else in the loop but that doesn't make sense to me. In my loop, my second GPU runs 10C hotter under load than my first GPU under max load, and 2C hotter idle.
 
You will be fine with a single high quality 360 rad, Feser, XSPC etc. Given that right now you have a 5850 and are planning on getting 2 of the as of yet speculative Fermi2/ GTX 6XXX. A single good rad will be more then sufficient even with a healthy overclock.

The "one temp" loop theory is pretty much preached as gospel, I never have found a review where it was proven. Temp sensors on the in out of block and rad, etc. I'm sure it exist somewhere given how it is spoken as fact, but I view it with a bit of skepticism. I'd also be willing to bet it can be proven mathematically, It really doesn't make sense to me.

Off topic, at the skinnee haters, he could have been found having sex with chickens but it does not debase his reviews or testing methods all of which have been proven to be sound and generally accurate. I wouldn't believe any OC's he states however.

EDIT: on a side note I most certianly find a 1 day, 1 post poster to be suspect given the circumstances.
