How much can I overclock this hardware?

How much can I safely overclock my CPU with this setup? Should I use the easytune6 software that comes with my mobo to do it or is it better to do it manually in the BIOS? I am kind of new to overclocking.

its much easier to overclock in the bios.. windows based overclocking still is a pain in the ass..

first you need to find out what stepping your processor is..

get cpu-z and check with that.. find all your base line numbers.. like cpu info, cpu stock voltage, FSB, ram timing, ram voltages for specific timings/speeds..

its important that you know what the stepping is because intel had 2 different models.. 1 overclocked great.. and the other one sucked at overclocking.. if its the good stepping.. 3.6ghz is a good possibility.. and the crappy one i think was limited to about 3.2-3.3ghz.. some where around there..
 
My chip has the G0 stepping idk if that is what you were referring to. This one is stays cooler I have heard.
 
The G0 stepping is the best one for Q6600s, but more recent chips aren't as good overclockers. Depending on the age of your chip, you're looking at a maximum speed somewhere from 3.2GHz to 3.6GHz. The maximum "safe" overclock is really just as high as you can get your chip without using unsafe voltages. With your CPU, you should not use a Vcore higher than 1.5V.

And like sirmonkey said, don't use Easytune. Do your overclocking in the BIOS.

I bought it used not brand new so its probably the better one. Is the easytune software even worth installing?

Also, I dont see a q6600 oc guide stickied. Am I missing something?
 
Actually the EasyTune 6 is worth installing is you want to monitor the volts with it. A lot of people use it for that purpose only. And my q6600 runs 3.6 on a UD3P, which is very close to the same board.
