How much Arctic Silver 5 to apply?

I always just use about a pea sized amount. Make sure you put it on the processor and then squeeze the heatsink/fan onto it. That way you get less air bubbles :)

QFT

although I have been using about a half pea lately, this only applies for IHS chips

So put the CPU in the socket, put a pea amount on the CPU, attach heatsink?

peas?

i recall reading a grain of rice size, or a bb size.

either way the stuff owns

That was for CPU's that did not have the heat spreader built in, such as the Athlon XP.

The instructions on the web site are the ones that the OP should follow. :) Just a thin layer is all you need.

i put a a couple of grains of rice sized amount and take a flathead screwdriver and spread it out into a layer. works for me.

None. Use a product that's better and cheaper, like Thermalcote.

fux, ya don't have to spread it out just follow the fuxin Arctic Silver instructions and you're golden. WTF?

Yeah you don't need to spread it out. A drop in the middle, and it will spread out on its own when you put the heat sink on top.

When you remove the heat sink it will also give you a good idea if your chip is flat or not. Mine is convex and should be lapped, I put a drop in the middle and most of the paste ends up on the sides.

Between the E6600 and it's stock heatsink?

Dont forget......first remove the thermal paste from the stock heatsink.
Clean the shit out of both surfaces with ArticClean or 99% Isopropyl alcohol.
Apply the ArcticSilver for Intel Processors like the Website recommends. You dont need to spread it out, and you need just a teeny bit.

And your off.:D

I was once asked this question and responsed: ''About the size of a small nut''.

The guy asked in return: 'The left or right one?''.

Yes, some coffee dripped out the nostrils.

mmm ArctiClean that stuff smells like orange oil  . Not bad but it is intoxicating after about 5 min or so :D

IIRC, the reason you want to go with the "pea size drop in the middle of the IHS" is because if you go with any other method, such as an X shape, or speading the goop manually, it will surly cause air bubbles. Putting it in the middle of the IHS, plopping down the HSF ontop and giving it a little twist back and forth seem to work the best. And DONT lift the HSF off the CPU to look how good of a job it did, cuz thats going to cause horrendous air bubbles.

99%? lol
Overkill much?
91% should work just fine and you can actually easily find the stuff.

99,91 89,92 you get the picture.......I couldnt recall the exact percentage.....I think ArctiClean works much better anyway......but you could always spit on it if you wish.

I wonder why people use arctic silver when the MX-1 paste is alot better. MX-1 cools better and is not conductive and capacitive like AS5. I just ordered a tube of MX-1

I was wondering how long it would take before this started to turn into a "my paste is better than your paste" mess.
