I am thinking about picking up one of these since I really need something to mess with. Main problem is that I am just not going to be happy with it unless I manage to get 9x333 (3GHz) out of it so I can hit that landmark number. Anything past that is a bonus. Planning on a E2160, Gigabyte P35 DS3L board, Freezer 7 Pro cooling fan. Is this a slam dunk cominbation for 3GHz, or are there some dud E2160s out there? has anyone tried OCing on the stock Intel fan? I just want cheap and fast, this will be like a 4th PC for me

I've hit 3ghz on the stock cooling, and stock volts, though its a bit warm for my tastes. You'll be fine with a Freezer 7 Pro. Frankly, I'd be very suprised if you didn't hit 3ghz.

3.15 Ghz on stock cooling and a little extra voltage on my E2160 and IP35-E. These are amazing little chips.

I see a purchase lined up in my immediate future... Interesting that the stock cooler seems to be ok for this. I got no problem picking up the Freezer 7 Pro if needed though. With cheap + fast as the main goals, I am tempted to try the stock Intel to start. I priced everything out and forgot to include a Vista license so that is going to throw off my numbers by +$100. I gotta try to keep the system cost down :)

ive had a 2160 to 8x385 on stock volts.thats 3.08ghz id say all of em would do 3ghz.

42C and 42C Core Temps for one of my E2160's at 9x333, running at VID (1.325v)
With the copper (Tall) stock Intel HSF. They also sometimes package aluminum (short) HSF's too, which don't cool as well.

On a GA DS3L btw...
:p

Used G Skill mem, an Asus V60 hsf and it's running Ubuntu 7.10 as a BOINC cruncher at 3 Ghz...on a Gigabyte G31 chipped mobo.

last night I got my E2200 to 3.0 at 1.365 V max temp was 52 with a Zalaman 9500 heat sink.

with an Abit IP35-E MB
Adata DDR2 800 Memory.
