I'm not sure i think the lower case might get higher readings cause it is closer to marble flooring/ the wooden planks the cases are sitting on have helped reduce vibrations quite a bit
 
My computer generates no noise unless the hdd spools up (still a very quiet model) or if I use an optical drive. My water pumps are remote from the computer and suspended. The radiator is passive. The case has no fans. My primary drive is a SSD. My power supply fan hardly ever comes on (and its dead silent anyways). Due to a lack of any motors spinning 90% of the time I can press my ear up to a hose and hear the water flowing inside... thats about at loud as it gets.

i hate you :) ...well that would be quite nice indeed, not really a viable option for me atm but that would be nice. I have cut the noise down in my work area a whole lot by replacing the old enlight mid my sever was in with a 2nd Triton 180 and replacing the fans with silent 12s and the silent 8 on the dynatron.

I'm debating getting some sound dampening material to install in the cases.

it was way too loud with with stock hyper 212 fan and the 80mm fans in the enlight but now it isn't too bad at all but even quieter would be better.
 
hovering around ~50dB to 60 without music on, just ambient of the fans (tri cools sitting ~2 feet form my head) and the YL's sitting on the other side of the desk :D
 
Mine is around 16db in an 800d with Akasa Apache fans. Can barely hear my computer running.
 
Beats the hell out of me. All I know is that I can hear it in my basement at night, while it is folding. :D

Work - Jet Engine even thought the regulations for my office are 45db max.
 
You can't really measure it with a cellphone software, it is useful only to estimate really loud level of noise. But to measure lower values, you need very expensive professional sonometer.
 
I hear nothing while browsing, but if start playing videos or using photoshop the little fan kicks in and I can hear it a bit. (macbook air)
 
well my MT4G w/ Sound Meter app is picking up 53db 12" in front of my main rig. 58 db 12" from my switch (D-Link 24 port green) & 51 db 12" in front of my server which is in an A04.. As a baseline though I tested my living room & it said it was 43db in there & its dead quiet in there. Only a quality ceiling fan on low (I cant hear it at all). So I think all my readings are higher then reality.

obviously you missed the "might not be the best tool to test with" disclaimer :)

I was just curious as to how my set up compared noise wise since i've been actively working for a bit now to knock the noise levels down. all in all i'm reasonably satisfied if i thought my wife wouldn't kill me if i buy a bunch a new fans I'd be temped to get some even quieter ones ...but for the money (under $10) the Gelid ones I bought are pretty nice.
 
I am an industrial audiologist, so my hearing testing equipment is calibrated annually, and before each testing. I did a sound weighted average using a dosimeter from work, and that was my average in my master bedroom. My ceiling fan was turned off during this 8 hour test though. It isn't loud really, just moves a lot of air. My wife and I are very sensitive to noise though, so we require a very silent sleeping area.

That has 8 x 800lb sound booths in it. I just used a Dosimeter. Check it out online. The rig is what I use to go into large (200+ People companies) to do hearing conservation testing. Just finished Firestone and Gerber within the last month.
