How loud is 30db?!

Does anyone know some kind of reference to what 30db sounds like? i would really like to listen to some sound clips at different levels of sound so i can compare.
 
its not that accurate to download a sound clip because so many factors affect it, like speaker volume, speaker volume, download quality, etc etc etc
 
30 db is so quiet that you probably won't notice it unless you are listening for it... i wouldn't be suprised if my computer fans were creating 50+ db right now.. i think road noise in most cars is 70-90 db.. and probably 110 in my van with all it's rattles and crap..
 
well you also have to remember that db isn't the only factor in how annoying a sound is, certain frequencies in disconance will be really annoying.
 
my volcano 8 fan says 30db's its loud as hell i can here it from other rooms. its so annoying.
 
30 dba is 2x as loud as 20dba. I had ~30 dba fans in my comp and it was so load i could hear it down the hall.
 
yeah, dB are a logrithmic scale, not an arithmatic.
ie 20dB is 2x as loud 10dB, 30dB is 2x louder than 20dB, etc.

You also have to remember, there is the noise of case fans, vid card fans, HDDs, cdRomns, etc.

Qwertyman: it might be 30dB on the lowest fan setting, but I always though that volcanos wre ~40dB on thier high setting..
 
20db's is a whisper. So 30db's are twice as loud, so think loud whisper, or very quiet conversations.

You're right, you beat me to it :). 30db isn't very loud at all, really. People usually talk at around 50db or even 60db. So that's 100-1000 times louder than 30db...
It's a logarithmic pattern, GLOIVEN.

30db(A) is a whisper. 60db(A) is loud.

well I have 5 fans that emit ~15 dba and a 120mm fan that emits less then that.


all of that and my hd combined emit less then 30dba for sure. I can still hear is from 2m at night.

in the day though i cannot hear it at all.

what does db stand for and what does dbA stand for?

Thats what I use for my computer! I find Dave Matthews Band works best in my office for silencing my computer.

Ok just for the sake of argument, we are taking about 'phons and sones' right.

At 30phons we precieve 0.5 sones right. Ok so 30phons is what we think of as decibles in the lamens right?

yeah for sure. with every 10db in increase, the audible volume is doubled. if you're playing your car stereo at 100db and then juice it up to 110db, then you have technically doubled the volume or audible sound wave.

Remember that according to the information its a relationship between sound pressure and percieved sounds. Essentially you are 100% correct.

Because there are different scales doesn't mean we don't adheare to one, and just call it one name (dB) because the masses have decided that this is the "standard" scale. Thats now sociology.
