I am currently stuck with an amazing Ati9200 128mb card.

I was thinking of getting the x800pro but the price is a little bit high so i thought of the 9800xt. From your own knowledge, how long do you think the 9800xt will last before it starts struggling?

If its going to last for about another year im just going to go with the x800pro. :D

If you're only going to keep the card for another year, you'd be better served by the 6800 vanilla. It's slightly faster than the 9800xt in most games, much faster in D3, and is cheaper to boot.

Just got mine a few days ago with the intent to replace it come spring time. The performance is much better than my 9800pro and should be enough to last me until next year...

Nah i think i have to stick with Ati because i have windows xp media center so i think i'll need a VIVO card unless there are some 6800gt's with VIVO.

Are there any 6800gt vivo cards?? :confused:

i still think you'd be better off going with the cheapest 6800NU you can find and picking up a decent vivo card in addition. If you're worried about the cost of the extra card and you WILL be upgrading soon then you could always go with a 256MB 9800Pro.....which is going to perform VERY similar to the 9800XT, cost much less, and allow you to pick that card in addition, which would in turn not limit you to what video card you want to upgrade to in teh future.

I have seen a couple VIVO 6800GT's but they have been far to overpriced for my liking.....and to far and between a normal 6800GT in terms of stock.

Performance wise you should go with the 6800NU, as it is the best choice.....or you could have SLIGHTLY less performance then the XT you were looking at and pick up the 9800Pro 256MB (extra memory for Doom just incase you wanna give it a go....not that much more then the 128MB anymore) with cash left to spare.

What do you think?
 
Lesson to learn: Keep your VIVO stuff on a seperate card so you don't have to worry about future videocard upgrades :p

yeah, but some people strongly prefer to have it built into their card for some reason.....I got nothin' against them, but I definitely IS easier to keep it seperate.....otherwise as you can see, your upgrade options do get quite limited down the road.
 
Im sure it could last thousands of years if you sealed it up properly and stored it a safe place. Maybe longer who knows... :)
