I was wondering how long would my Rig last me,

The Specs are:

Intel P4 640 3.2Ghz HT LGA 775
Gigabyte 8I915P Duo Pro
Giga-byte 6600GT Turbo Edition
120GB Seagate Sata Barracuda 7200RPM 8mb cache
Omni X510s
4x 80mm case fans
Geil 2x512mb DDR Dual channel Rams
LG Dual Layer DVD Burner 16x GSA-4160B
Logitech X-530 5.1

Ummmmm.....until it breaks?

Last you how long doing what? I assume games? Should be cherry for another 1-2 years or so.

It would help if you told us what you do with it. It's longevity will be much different if you are using it to check email, or are going to be hardcore gaming.

Haha, good point. I was on a 440BX system until last summer.

#1 - depends on your demands.

The only SLIGHTLY weak part is the 6600GT. Which isn't really weak. Its just not top of line. But it should let you play any game you want at decent resolutions and quality levels for at least a year++.

Now if you have a 20" flat screen and your native resolution is 1600x1200 and you demand 4xAA,8xAF on all titles, etc... You MIGHT need to upgrade your videocard in a year. But other than that the system should last maybe 2+ years.

#2 - depends on the demands of the new games & programs, etc coming out in the future, which is a little unknown. But I'm sure your specs would meet minimum requirements for any game/program for the next 3+ years. Its just whether or not you'll be able to play at MAX detailed settings.

good answer good answer.
my ole 3x86SX16 lasted me till 1997 (aprox 12 years) n it still worked when i trashed it ;-)

I have the computer i built in junior year of hs. I jsut finished my frosh year of college and its still faster than what most people have. Course i have done various upgrades, mobo and ram and more hd space. The proc is still the same though, 2.8c that has served me well. and when i bought it i had no idea it was a good one at all.

Depending on what kind of PSU you have and if you've got a SPS/UPS it could last quite a while. New GPU would be good in a while if you play lots of games. All of your stuff is pretty much the latest out there, just not the very cutting edge. It should last a while.

I like everything except the hard drive and the video card. I would buy one DiamodMax 10 ATA 133 200 GB HDD 16 MB cache OEM @ $~100 and get a graphic card a little more powerful if you are into gaming. I own the 6800 GT and I think its a great card. Not as expensive as the ULTRA, yet faster than the 6600 while offering good overclocking capabilities. Also, possibly the 800 XL?
But your computer will last you a while(and stay competitive) for 1-3 years in areas such as, video editing, gaming, photo editing ETC

ummm.. not very demanding use..... = 3 years if you're lucky.

Do a fresh install of WinXP in about a year or so, just to clean it up some and you'll be amazed at how that can improve stability and speed things up. (at least for the average user, who gets their computer bogged down with bloatware, toolbars, spyware, etc...)
