How long will my gaming pc last?

I have built myself a high end gaming pc. This build was SPECIFICALLY designed to game only, and that's why I didn't get the i7 or 16,32gb ram.

My specs are
i5 4690K water cooled by h105 oc 4.5GHz
8gb ram
CF 2x R9 290X water cooled by h55 + g10
128Gb SSD, 2TB HDD
1000W psu
Korean 1440p monitors oc 100Hz

After calculating all the cost together, it comes down to about £1500 (I was lucky to get some cheaper high quality parts otherwise it would have been a bit more)

I think I will NEVER upgrade this PC as I think that every parts are working together at its full potential.

I just wanted to know that how long will this pc able to play games at 1440p 60fps(min) @high - ultra? (not how long will it last before games are unplayable)

How long will there be a single gpu that out-perform my crossfire 2x R9 290x by 40%? (rough estimate)

How long will my rig considered a 'mid-range' pc?

This is my first high-end build, I have always had a budget build that my parent build for me and it only last me a couple of years before games are unplayable. My experience with this pc is okay, its too expensive and I think if I had to build a gaming pc in the future, I would go with itx build, single gpu (kinda mid range type).

Probably a few years. Longer depending on your desirable level of frame rates. I would have went with an i7 as it does help in a few titles. Assuming you had the money.

I should have went with the i7 as well but the main reason for the i7 is that it generally oc a bit better. but I feel that the i7 is not gonna give more than 5 fps 99.7% of games but I put that money directly towrds the 290x+watercooled, I think that will give at least 35fps in all games.

My desirable always go higher once I see new things but I am not gonna bother about it until I see 30-40% improvement over what I currently have.

A few years at least. Games don't push the envelope very much these days and your rig equals like 4+ PS4's.

This build is from 2011, only the video card was upgraded once.
I'd say you get 3 years till you'll feel like you want to upgrade. And you could probably push it longer with small upgrades(like a new video card in 2 years) here(faster SSD) and there(more RAM).

Personally, I would've gone ahead and gotten an i7 and 16gb of RAM....

All in all, expect it to be high end for about a year and mid-range for another 2-3....

Fyi, I built the core of my rig in Dec 2009! I've upgraded the video card once, doubled the RAM, and added in an SSD.... It still plays just about anything I throw at it with a mixture of med-high settings etc.

don't think I will upgrade this anymore, at least 2 years, by that time there will be ddr4 which my mobo will not support, the cf 290x will definately last more than 2 years, just like the cf 7970. Think my i5 might bottleneck new gpu or probably die from overclocking LOL! better case, things I can use from this pc is only psu and hdd, ssd.

I think this is the way to go. No need to reinstall Windows (or buy another copy), get a new disc drive, new fans, new case ect.

Just upgrade the parts that need to be upgraded. More than likely it will be GPU and SSD (bigger sizes).

I know i7 is better than the i5 but I don't do any video editing, plus that £70 will see more improvement if I water cooled my gpu and put that money towards another gpu which directly impact games, the only other program I use for this pc are word, excel, google chrome, poker software (my 10yo rig will run this program without any problem).
As for the ram I can get another 8 later on anyway, atm I never really use anything more than 6gb

thanks for the reply!

Wow not to jinx it...but my rig (sig below) is going on 6 years and still playing all games at 1080p.

BF4 was tough, Metro Last Light had to obviously turn some stuff down, but over all, I've gotten all the money I can out of this rig. I'm going to miss it when it's finally time.

What resolution are you gaming at? That makes all the difference in the world. If everything you play is at 1440p it depends on what kind of games you play.

Not sure what kind of processing power is needed for pushing those monitors, but my rig below gradually expanded from one 3d monitor to three and replacing the video card GTX680 with three 780's, with a mild overclock to 4 Ghz, runs everything fine in 3570 X 1080 and its like 3 years old. I never really go over 6 gb of ram while playing. Point being I think replacing the vid cards every once in a blue moon should give you the boost you need when appropriate...

I'm using a PC I built almost 4 years ago (sig) and it still runs well even at 1440p. I do have to turn some effects in some games, but I mostly run games on high at 45FPS or higher.

I can see it getting long in the tooth and will upgrade here very soon, but it still going strong.

It will last as long as you want it to.

When you reach a point where you have to dial down certain components of a game to achieve smooth gameplay, and those adjustments result in graphics you can't live with, or the framerate is poor..........then it's time to upgrade.

I guess it all depends on what you rate as a "mid-end gaming pc". I put together my system (in sig) almost 8 years ago. It was not as high end of a gaming pc back then as yours as now. I spent $800 for it, which included an e6300 and an 8800 gts. Swapped it off four years ago for the q9550 and 5850.

Some may argue that my system no longer qualifies as a mid-end gaming pc. But since I'm able to play pretty much every game that I come across, even if it means lowering my resolution from 25x14 to 19x10 or taking high settings to normal settings, I still believe mine is a mid-end gaming pc.

So with that said, I'm pretty sure your system will still run under MY definiteion of a "mid-end gaming pc" 10 years later, but maybe only half the time for you.

My roommate has a similarly spec'd PC , E8400 stock and an HD 7770 @ 1080p. He plays DotA2 and CS:GO. In my opinion, the performance was pretty terrible.

When you do finally upgrade it's going to be like a breath of fresh air. :)

What psu did you get? The part quality matters more than what you bought.

Keep in mind the magnetic platters will degrade after some years. Quite possibly less than 100.

Honestly, all you'd need to do is upgrade the video card, and you'd be back to running things maxed out at 1440p again. The 2500k is still more than enough for any game out there these days (when OC'd).

Another's vote for i7 and 16 gb ram. Check my sig -- besides the vid card (waiting for 880) still runs like tits. Even devils canyon only like 15-20% faster. Yawn.
