How long to overtake?

Saw an interesting thread over at OCAu this morning, as I popped in to congratulate them. Teammembers were trying to guess how long it would take to pass us. 75 correctly guessed less than a month. Time to make our guesses at overtake date.

The initial shock will hopefully bring back a few that aided in the final push last time. Undoubtedly there will be some mention in todays forum happenings, and a renewed vigor within the ranks. Bumped my own overclocks to the limits, surely many others will follow suit. Getting new recruits, and WU's finished will take a few days.

My guess to get things back under control 14 days. The lead may well change back and forth a few times today, but the folks down under, are digging in for the long haul. We must be prepared for a long battle.

As always it will be a good fight... (and we should do our part to keep it clean, as well as good)... I'm not going to make a prediction as to when we'll overtake them... I think we need to focus more on finding ways to bring in more folders for the [H]orde, more folders in general (no matter what team)...

We need to recruit more folders... period... no matter which team... We're all here to [H]elp in any way we can.... We just need to find an effective way to inform others about folding...

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

Perhaps now we will see far less talk of “other projects” and as a team concentrate more on our team goals.

OCAU is a monster for sure but we have taken them before and we can do it again :D

AMEN!

The problem we're going to run in to is that we didn't hold them off long enough. We needed to pass them during the winter and hold them off until summer was actually here. We ended up passing them in late spring and then getting passed back in late spring. Hopefully we'll all win in the end, but in the points and WU race, things are not looking good for the [H] right now. OCAU seems to be much better at getting and keeping the corporate folders, so we need to hold the ones we've got and get back to our original philosophy of winning with an overwhelming number of folders. Fold and recruit on!

no...the problem is us Americans all seem to like to start our own teams and not just join the winning US team (that would be us). Australia has like 2 folding teams the USA has like...a LOT more. If we all (or just some) just merged, we would be unstoppable!!!!!!

I think one of us (preferably somebody with good people skills) needs to contact the lower producing USA teams and convince them to fold for us. I can't do it b/c I'd probably say something threatening (like, "You best fold for the [H]orde or I'll kidnap your pets." or something like that).

LOL.. I was just actually browsing around Stanford's site and thought about the same thing.. "all those small teams with like 20 people in them.. wish we could b0rg them" The pet kidnapping hadn't come to me... might be a good idea

I think you need to try harder to get the ones that start Folding to continue Folding. You lot have done a great job in the past 6 months, an injection of new members with a lot of enthusiasm has transformed your team and has built the foundation with which you can build on. Keep at it and who knows where you will end up.

Call it what you will, incentives are what get people to Fold harder: Nikita Krushchev .

Forget the pets...Go for the first born child ;) I'm trying to get some people at my work to let me borg their home PC's

Whats going on here?

Did we get over taken?

I am confused.

edit: wow, gone for a day and things change quick.

I think it's going to be close, but after see-sawing for a few weeks I think we can pull on top. I hear they will be losing a big folder soon so that is in our favor (not science's). If everyone keeps adding to the D thread and OCing like crazy (run thtt air conditioning to the max to simulate winter!) we'll have a chance. All I know is that will be an interesting month or so.

Fold on Fellas!

I'd say give it about 6 weeks. There's lots of different activities coming up, we're getting an overwhelming dose of pimpage, and there is generally a buzz down here that has even surpassed once we got back to #1.

It's too bad however that if we get there sooner, its going to be at an expense of a large producer. I'm still hoping we'll push back by them before this guy is gone, and who'll hopefully not disappear.

Nature's not on our sides right now guys. This happens every freaking year. We pass them in the winter and they pass us in the summer. The problem is that this year they passed us before summer has even ramped up! We're going to need our enthusiasm, improved OC's, D to X GHz and all the new members we can get if we want to keep this close enough to pass them back when the weather cools off. If we can start catching them again, that's great, but if we can just stop falling back at an ever increasing rate I'll be satisfied. (but not happy) ;)

Don't you just hate it when someone from not only "down under" but the "other side" as well is actually right?

This "team" needs to remember what a "team" actually is!

The simple fact is that our best chance to keep up much less overtake is to get as many new folders as possible. Sure, they may only have one or two rigs and they may not run 24/7 but that is what will keep us going through the summer. Many people with farms have to shut them off due to electricity costs from running the A/C and some have to drop their overclocks because they won't stand up to the heat.

About the only other chance we would have at this time is a large corp farm or two. They usually won't notice the power or cooling costs as bad as a home farmer but they are very difficult to get.

Another thing to remember is that since school is getting out, we usually lose some borgs that way. Not as many labs run, people no longer have "free" power to run a bunch of systems and borgs lose connectivity from going from the campus connection to dial up or something.

The main thing we can do is get individuals folding. If some drop out or their production drops, it usually does not hurt the team as bad. I think one of the reasons we took so long to take the top spot back is due to the loss of MidnightFreak. I'm not blaming anything on him, I'm just saying losing a massive producer like that caused a large points loss. Individuals don't hurt as much. Besides, just think about how many end up getting addicted and start their own farms and such.

Don't worry about me... I won't shut down any computers because it's the summer (they are in the basement and it's cooler there :D ). Also, the electricity price is very low here so i won't mind adding more...
