How long till presler?

Jan. right? I am in need of a new pc, so I hope soon. I was going to wait for M2 but I think Intel is calling my name again. Cant wait for M2, Conroe or anything else. So I hope Presler treats me good.
 
I think it would be smarter to wait for Conroe and just overclock your current CPU a bit until then. I doubt you'll die by waiting 7 months :eek:

In the last year Ive built my son,daughter,wife, brother, in-laws, and neighbor new boxes. Its my turn now damnit!...lol. I wanted so bad to get in on Opterons, then school clothes came for kids. Christmas now so thats out. Financially right now, my only shot at a new box is Jan. so Im taking advantage of it. Id love to wait for Conroe, or M2. But my plans dont run deep into the future. When your and adult with responsibilities, you take advantage when you can.

WTH does that have to do with me having extra $$ for a pc? I have 3 kids, all under 10, tuiton locked and paid for. All going to Penn State if they choose. I think Ive got a pretty good handle on my priorities thank you.

Preslers are cheap and very potent , good OC too , and coupled with a 955/975 board with value RAM they are worth buying IMO.
 
From What I recall Presler Extreme Edition is slated for December 27th 2005, aka Pentium EE 955, 3.46GHZ/2x2MB/1066FSB/HT

Then in Early to Mid January you have the rest of the Presler Pentium D line for these pricing:

Presler will run in 945/955 mobos and there is a chance for them to run even in 865/875 mobos.

The EE version is supposed to require the 975 , but apparently it works fine in 955. ( xtremsystems.com users have such a combo )

Presler looks more appealing than Conroe to me. I still think Netburst has a ton of potential.

With Presler you should have insane overclockability, plus HT, and loads of cache. With Cedar Mill chips OCing to match or beat AMD FX line processors, Preslers should really lay out some serious domination.

What do you say if at launch a 80w 2.93GHz Conroe = 4.5 GHz Presler ?

Im so glad i thought i through and got a 945 mobo, been waiting for these new Pentium D chips for the upgrade. Unless anyone can prove that the M2 or conroe will run on a 945. looks like i'll be getting a presler. Will they all be with HT?
 
Presler is impressive that's for sure. Though I haven't got my hands on Conroe yet to compare the two. I was checking out a system today that was running a presler, gigabyte 975 board, and the damn fan didn't even turn on during startup. The fan speed would go from barely turning at all to moderate speed and back again, the heat sink wasn't even hot. Very cool shit. We're going to try some overclocking on the board after we know that the system is stable.

I find taht somewhat hard to believe on a CPU that has a TDP of 100+ W

I don't doubt that Conroe will be impressive, and efficient, but I have high hopes that Presler will OC as well as Cedar Mill. If Cedar Mill hits 5Ghz stable on stock air cooling, Presler should be able to hit mid 5s or even 6 on good water or phase change.

Efficieny and wattage are irrelevant to me, I don't care how much juice it takes or how hot it runs as long as it is stable and fast.

The only thing holding me back from Conroe is lack of HT.

I was under the impression Presler lacks HT also. At least one of the screen shots over at XS of a 950 didnt show HT. Hmmm.... :confused:

The normal Pentium D 9xx will lack Hyper Threading while the Pentium EE 955 will have it for the premium of 999US.;)

Similar to how the current Pentium D don't have Hyper Threading but Pentium EE 840 does.

The Presler package being 2 Cedar Mill does indeed have Hyper Threading in the core, it will just be disabled on the Pentium D's.

The M2 isn't a processor, it's a socket.

I've always been under the impression that HT came about thanks to NetBurst arch., and can't really be implemented on much else? Or was I just thinking/reading too much B.S.? :D

Product segmentation, All the Pentium EE 955 has got over the Pentium D 950 is 66MHZ, 1066FSB and Hyper Threading.

The Pentium D is 637US, while the Pentium EE is 999US, I mean if the regular 9xx Series has Hyper Threading it would make the 955 even more rotten value then it is already.:p

I usually find myself defending Intel. This time that's not the case. I use and like HT a lot. BUT dual core processors just don't need it=P In fact, even Intel admits that 4 threads can cause problems, I linked Morley to them saying so. Shame on them for using Hyperthreading (A free item on many of their Processors).

Conroe will kick some serious ass.
