I am beginning to overclock my system (everything but the video card) and was wondering how long you need to run orthos for the lower overclocks and also for a final stability test at the maximum oc point?

I've tried some software overclocking tools already and didn't like them too much. Clock Gen looks good, but it unfortunately doesn't have a PLL setting for the asus p5b-e. With ntune, I couldn't even find the menu to manually overclock, which is what I wanted. Does it support manual oc'ing on non-nvidia chipset mobos? Lastly, I tried the asus ai booster that comes with the motherboard. It works OK, but it's bloated with the rest of the ai suite software that I don't want running. Is there any other oc'ing software out there?

If I need to test a final OC point that I will use day-to-day, I run Orthos + 3DMark + HDTach overnight on continuous loop. Then I run Orthos continuously for at least 3 days while I use my computer normally. After that, I take down the clock speed a smidge, or if the temps are pretty low and I know I have extra power, I bump the voltage up a bit more.

This process results in a machine thats 100% stable. Anything less and you're running a risk. I've had machines that are 24 hours prime stable crash once in a while (but a long while).

I think 6 hours with several orthos running is the best torture test. Just be sure you give cpu affinity to each core. Also be aware that you'll probably wanna do it when your room is as hot as it will get in the summer since room temp can affect CPU temp in a big way.

This may be a stupid question, but is it fine to run other programs while running Orthos? I'm running it to test my CPU's stability, but also on the net at the same time. I figure that the CPU will be at 100% load either way, but I want to make sure that running other programs doesn't affect the testing.

Dual Core=you can run two programs at the same time.
