I was thinking of making a new 939 system with the SN95G5 and i was just wondering how they are?

yeah i just got it
its pretty beautiful
shiny
easy to install stuff (i dno bout cpu, hasnt arrived yet haha)
did i mention it was shiny?
my system is:

athlon 64 939 3200+ winchester
1 gig of buffalo pc3500
radeon 9800xt
250gig hitachi sata hard drive
16x dual layer dvd burner
one of those mitsumi floppy/flash card reader 3.5"bay doohickeys
tomorrow i can tell you more, as i will finish building it

HAHA!! *does the new computer dance*

The bit sore spot is this model has problems reading the tempatures correctly off of some of the Athlon 64's dies and shuttle has been in no rush to fix the problem as it doesn't allow the fans to be dynamically changed with tempaures. I"d read this thread before purchasing it to be aware of the issue.

SN95G Temp problems

This is the reply I got from Shuttle tech support on the issue (I have an SN95G5 w/ an A64 3500+):
Dear Sir,

This is with some A64 CPUs only. We cannot fix it this time.
Your CPU cannot be damaged by overheat. The CPU has internal
overheat protection. We tested 3.2GHz and 3.6GHz w/o any problems.
Sorry that i cannot help you but we still talk with AMD about
this issue.

Best Regards

yeah i just assembled/powered on my sn95g5 just to see if it would post (my first build ever), and lo and behold, the fan was LOUD!

any suggestions?

I just put mine together ...LOVE IT! my first SFF. smart fan is interesting and seems to work well. I will have to mod it cause my leadtek 6800 is a wee to fat but that should make it interesting. what a wicked design to this case. sterdy, sleek and tite! now 4 the bench'z!

2 thumbs up! :D

Just recently, I've been thinking of getting one of these too. I've stayed away from the 64 bit chips because I thought it would be too expensive to justify the jump. I kept looking at the 3800+, 4000+, and FX chips priced around $600 to $800. Not until recently did I find out that the A64 chips outperform the similarly rated Athlon XPs. So, replacing my sn45g and XP 3000+ with an sn95g5 and A64 3000+ isn't an insignificant jump the rating numbers would suggest.

Also, the 90nm Winchesters seem to be easily overclocked with just regular air cooling.

wow...reading that thread from Sudhian....really has scared me away from Shuttle. (which I was considering if I don't gow ith an Aria setup)

It should be something that Shuttle will be able to fix with just a bios update. But I do admit, I think I will wait for that update before picking it up.

Anyone running a 6800GT in this box? (Especially an overclocked evga 6800GT) I see that it only has a 240W power supply, so I'm a little skeptical about building one. Also I'm wondering if heat is an issue.

I really like the idea of going to a SFF, but I like to overclock my vid card and processor, so I'm not sure if this is the right way to go for me.

my leadtek is oc'd to an ultra (no case on yet). I too was skeptical about the psu but reading everything on it everyone said they could push it and oc, some... ..I don't want to use another psu as easy lan'ing is the key here with this rig. I want mine all in one unit

this setup will oc and there are many options, I think it just needs more creativity. my ocz plat rev2 runs quite warm but the cpu is barely warm and the speedfan never really turns on max. I will push it though once I get the design I'm looking 4..

cheers!

Shuttles PSU's are of VERY high quality. Actually in comparison, Shuttles amps on their rails actually are more stable then higher wattage PSU's in some cases.

SFFtech has many people who have good luck OC their 6800GT's inside shuttles. Keep in mind however your not going to be able to take it to extremes becuase, well...you only got 240 watts to play with. But for the most part, people have had pretty decent luck OC shuttles in general.

If your looking for SUPREME OC headroom and potential, then no, Shuttles are not for you. If your into just average OC's, the shuttles can do quit well. Visit the SFFtech boards, as Im their often and the people there are awesome.

You may wanna wait till the 'P' Series cases come out for the AMD 64 with the nForce4 boards. They will have 350 watt PSU's, more room and better cooling then the current G cases. Though how well they OC has yet to be seen. Read about the Intel P series case here to see what it looks like

good points DarkWind, obvisouly the psu kicks some serious (_x_)! my 12 barely budges. I don't want to have an external psu as some have so I am so happy that is does cause that was the initial selling featture for me, next to the cooling. as to "SUPREME OC"? no one with a shuttle should even mutter those words...my 3500 and the plat 2 ocz is more than what I expected to see. WHOLLY!!! ..BTW: I am coming off a P4 3.0C / MSI NEO FISR / OCZ DDR500

LAN LAN and more LAN!! thanks shuttle!! 'nuff said :D ..
