How important to include the chipset in WC loop?

I'm buying the DD RBX and the Swiftec MCW50, can I get away without a chipset waterblock for the time being?
My board isn't volt modded yet but will be when I take it all back apart for the water cooling install.
I definitely don't want to add noise (small high-rpm fan)

Also - does anyone have a link to the big thread on bong coolers saved? Search isn't working and I've read back several pages already....
I'm definitely going to use a "bong" setup with it vented through my window (using a painted board with a hole cut in the end just tall enough for the pvc to vent through -
so it's still basically sealed from the outdoor air)
I plan to use a 4" pvc pipe approx. 3' H and another 2" clear pvc pipe attatched to the side w/ a 90* fitting near the bottom as a resevoir (like a pet feeder)
Anyone want to buy a like-new Zalman 7000cu? :p

Oh - nice forum btw.

NB's get hot as fuck. Youare already cooling all elses, why not include the NB? It iwas so nice to get rid of the little screamer fan on had on that sucker.

even with a mid-range to high-range W/C system, water gets to be in the 40s (celsius, of course) - unless you have a watercooler or something.

anyway, my case temperatures are around 30C, and the northbridge (i875) stays withing 1C of the ambient - 31-32C. there is no need to cool it. i'm using a swiftech northbridge cooler, and the fan on that is inaudible.

edit: i meant to say - no need to WATERcool it. :) IMHO

Cooling the NB increases stability when overclocking. That is just stupid as hell to say there is no need to cool it.

Also, do you have a temp probe on your NB going to a readout?

btw, here's what i'm using for a northbridge cooler:

Swiftech MCX159-P

silent, looks awesome, and works very well.

btw, i meant - there is no need to watercooler it, unless your case is very hot, or your water stays *below* ambient case temperature, even at high loads.

thermal probe? - no.

laser thermometer? - yes.

Raytek MT4.

don't be getting TOO FRESH with me, buddy. :)

If you plan on cranking the voltage on the chipset way the hell up then you prolly want watercooling on it.

watercooling + pelt is another option. :)

i'm gonna ask a question or two of my own.. it should help the poster out...

i'm gonna have a similar setup but instead of an RBX i'll be gettin a white water.. i've heard most people say that a WB on the chipset (which i currently have but was gonna get rid of) isnt necessary as it just hurts flow rate and does more harm than good basically.. so i was gonna get one of those northpoles.. is this a good idea or will it not cool as good as a WB? and also how loud is the thing...

Great ...post some pics of temp of the NB.

Well my NB is passive (stock) and I honestly have never monitored the temp on it but I do have an enermax I could move one of the probes to.

As for "why not" I would rather not because I want to reduce cooling loss to my CPU & especially 9800, I want to keep it clean as possible and I don't like the zip-tie method of holding down the P4C800's NB. Not to mention the xtra 35+ bucks - though that really isn't a concern because I would spend a premium for a really good quiet sink if I need it.

Because $30 says "hell no"

$30? You are saying that is a lot to spend ...or something? I think it is very cheap for a nice block. I have a Z-chip ($42) on mine.

Speaking of laser thermometer, where can I buy one?? I've seen it from the hotel I'm working from. The engineers using it for checking fridge temps so yeh where can I find em?

buy-it-now on ebay starts at $55 + $7 shipping. you want the version with the laser pointer - it shows you what it's measuring exactly, plus, it's pretty cool.

Hey I could get a WW for that amount...if I had that money Id defiantly get a better rad/CPU block/pump before I considered the northbridge

Wow that's expensive for a thermometer! Well it looks cool I'll probably buy it.
