I couldn't stand it and HAD to overclock this 2.4A Prescott and I easily hit 3.06 ghz at default voltage.

The Abit EQ temp monitor shows it's running idle at 44.5C to 45C. I have stock Intel fan and heatsink and the side off my case with a small fan blowing into the case.

I do some gaming but mostly I do pro-sound/multitrack recording on this box. I've been out of the overclocking scene for a while and am wondering if m CPU is within a decently safe zone temp-wise.
 
How hot does it get full load?

I overclock my Athlon 1800+ and I used a volcano 7 heatsink, and the temps had a very large range, idle 33, full 58. Then I recently put in a silent boost and my idle has gone up to 43, but my full is only 53.

I would never let the full temp go any higher then 60, I was very ify at 58, but I wanted to keep it running as fast as it would go. To check my temps I run Prime95 for a while with a heat monitoring program running as well and I periodically check to see how hot it gets, and it also tests my stability.
 
Under a load (playing 3d RPG's here)temps seem to run up to 52 to 54C. Soon as I stop playing a game temp drops pretty quickly back down to 45 C
 
You should be fine for temps if you stay around 54 then. If you are worried about 54, you could always invest a few dollars in a different heatsink, but Its not something I would worry about. How long are you playing the 3d rpg's for? I usually check after an hour of gaming. Remember though, if ur just playing games, Your computer probably isn't running 100%, thats something to keep prime95 in mind for, it will check stability, and get the maximum heat.
 
I did a quick 5 minute test with Prime and temp shot up to 54.5 so I panicked and shut down the test. I do have the Abit program set to shutdown the system should the CPU ever hit 60C. I don't *need* to run this fast as the machine does fine at stock speeds. But, hell...I like to go *faster* for the $$$ iffin I can without frying things:)

Weird...I just clocked back down to stock speed and while running Prime95 the CPU is holding steady at 57.5C. Part of me is thinking since I seldom will ever push the machine this hard that overclocking to 3.06 at default voltage is a safe overclock.

I have my 2.4A Prescott running 167x18 in my Shuttle SB75G2 on the stock hs with a Thermaltake A2016 80mm fan @ ~2500rpm. My temps are 48C idle and 55C load. The Intel P4A Prescott specs show that the 2.4A can handle up to 69.1C. I assume you're using the thermal grease that came with the Intel stock hsf so I recommend some AS5. Also if you were wondering, on stock speeds my temps are 43C idle and 49C load.
 
My system ( P4 2.4A @ 2.52 GHz + P4P800 ) usually gets 47-49C while idle. And while Im playing, it normally gets 63C or even higher!!! I use the original HSF and Im using Asus Probe to measure temp.
I dont know what to think... is it dangerous? is it something wrong with my system?
My system never crashes... but I really would like to slow down temp...

And more... How far this processor is able to go?? 2.8? 3.06? Is it safe?
 
it's safe. if the temps are all right. and the proc can stand the voltage.

the best way to test temps is to run Prime95TortureTest w/ the "most heat" option enabled, and run Folding@Home (http://folding.stanford.edu team #33), this is the best way to ensure maximum heat output.
 
Are we talking about people or CPU's. JK, I hate seeing my CPU's going over 55°C. But I have seen some run just fine at 70°C, but then again I have seen some crash at 60°C.
