Running Xfire 5770s, how hot is too hot? When would you be concerned 60, 70, 80 celcius under load ??? What is a safe max temp ?

Not exactly sure myself, but for some reason, I get really antsy when I see my temps in the 90's. I usually hover in the low 80's at full load.

There are many cards that can get to 80-90C under load. This is especially true for older cards. The smaller the process, like the 40nm we see today, the less power and lower temps should be. So, it partly depends on which card youre talking about.

Typically, cards going over 90C+ at load id start to worry, especially if it is a 40nm card. It may not always be the video card though. Case and ambient temps can greatly affect this number as well. However, I would never want a video card in my system at over 90C personally.

Here is a good quick reference I found straight from hardocp. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/10/12/amd_ati_radeon_hd_5770_5750_review/7

GPUs are typically designed to run hot. Which is good since so many have such anemic cooling. IIRC the max temp is like 110c, but I'd try to stay below 90c.

The real question is how stable are they and do the fans wail like banshees?

Haha no banshees here.. Well that makes me happy bc the most I get to is 80 on these two passive cards, ps. After installation all I did was tick the box 'yes' to xfire in ati controll panel is there anything else I should be doing to optimize the two cards ? Cheers

Oh, these are 2 passively cooled cards with no hsf as well? lmao. Well that kind of explains everything. 80C at load with a passive card is fairly amazing.

It's too hot when you start to see throttling. Anything under that is ok, as the GPU is tested to work reliably at those temps(at stock speed). I've had my old overclocked and over-volted 5850's cooling profile set to run at a loaded temp of 93c(freaking cooler was too loud and annoying at a higher fan speed) and it ran fine for over a year.

The biggest thing to worry about is the temp of the VRMs, as they are not always cooled adequately, especially on lower-end cards with small coolers.

Mar they have a heatsink a big one, but designed without a fan

Yeah sorry, I meant without a fan, obviously they would need a heatsink lol. That is kind of impressive for a 5770. I didnt know they ran that cool.

They may be slightly specced down I think no there not cool lol I'm cookin eggs on them this weekend

When i see my temps going above 76c i boost the fan % of MSI Afterburner and it works wonder's.
@ 90c i would use it all the time might cool it off by 10-25%'C while still gaming!
