planning a sff build soon and contemplating getting one instead of onboard audio. but also concerned about additional heat output
 
Sound cards do not get hot, the reduction in airflow from the sound card taking up space is going to do more than the heat from it.
 
hm. i guess those fancy metal enclosures that some sound cards have are just for aesthetics then :p
 
I remember some X-Fi came with a heatsink attached so if they do not generate some heat why would they do that?
