Mine's actually burning to touch... is this okay? Will this significantly kill it's lifespan?

They all have heatspreaders on them..

A simple 120mm Fan blowing air directly on them should do the trick. And yes, burning hot to the touch sounds too hot, but within spec. Mem V?

no and yes. would you want your CPU to be burning hot to the touch? the same CMOS technology is used for both, and they will both die prematurely from excessive periods at elevated temperatures :(

as was suggested, use a fan over the ram. this is what i used to do:

worked like a charm :D

ok, my ram gettins hot to the touch when i first touch it but then cools down as i hold it.
i do have a heatsink on my ram, 2x1gbs gskill.
how hot is bad?
its not hot that i have to take my finger off and no where near as hot as my chipset hs. but i would say it gets hot.

is there any software that allows u to see yr ram temps?

Heatspreaders are all for bling and doesnt help cool your rams...... if you want cool rams then the best is taking off the heatspreaders and give it some airflow.......

...you're kidding right. The term heatspreaders doesn't give it away? I'm sure he doesn't want to void his warranty anyways. When I said put a 12cm fan directly ontop, I wasn't guessing. (cf)Eclipse can back me up with his post. Heatspreaders WORK because of greater surface area PERIOD.

i have no war of putting a fan on mine unless i buy on of those memory slot fans, but befor i buy one of those how hot is too hot? i can keep my finger on no prob but id say its hot.

Yeah, they do work... but not really all that much :p Thus the reason that OCZ has the honeycomb pattern to let in more advection influence.

And about the name... Integrated Heat Spreader... Cmon ;) You can name something ANYTHING, regardless of function

it actually depends.. mainly on the thermal tape used. most is crappy, thus the heatspreaders don't help at all. the good ones do a bit better than no heatspreader, but not a whole lot. remember that you're going from bare die and pcb, which actually has a lot of surface area, to a flat plate of aluminum which actually has less total surface area. ;)

Because radiant heat loss from a smaller surface area in a hot stagnant environment is greater than moving air over a greater surface area, right? Lol?

my ram gets hot only while gaming, do u guys think i should get a fan for it?

Definately get a fan for it.

My tracers don't get hot enough for me to get burned but I still stuck a nice 80mm fan (with 92mm blades) to cool it down. It also helps with your OC if you push a lot of volts through your ram like I do.

The LEDs on my ram probably don't help the heat at all either :p

Your rams need to get fairly hot for the heatspreaders to start helping, if not it acts like a blanket...... Ived benched for 6 hours straight with a minimum of 2.7v going through my Ballistix and they never got warm...... Naked ballistix + fan is the best cooler IMHO..... Now that im done benching Ive put the HS back on.......

Have you seen the thermal tape they use on these lol.......
