I posted this in the motherboard section, mainly to check if an exchange is needed for the new motherboard, but I think it might be more relevant here.

I purchased an MSI Master2-FAR, and a PC Power & Cooling 510XE.
I am going to upgrade to a Tyan Thunder K8W and their site says I need a 510AG.
I was wondering what the big difference is and if I really have to go through the trouble of exchanging it.
It's really not a big problem exchanging, I don't think, but I'd like to know the differences anyway.

Also, is this PSU enough for all of the following?
Tyan Thunder K8W w/ dual Opteron 242's
3 Seagate 200GB Sata in Raid 5 on a 3Ware 9500S -8 (will add more drives as needed, probably not more than 6 total)
1 74gb Raptor
2x 36gb Raptors in Raid 0
DVD writer and CDRW
Radeon 9800 AIW
Linksys wireless NIC
3x 80mm case fans (will probably add 1-2 more)

I know PC Power & Cooling are great PSUs, but do you think with all this I might need a redundant PSU, or maybe 2 PSUs?

well the AG is just for the extra 6 pin AGP Pro connector (see sig :p)

yup thats plenty of power (its basically a 600watt for comparision purposes) to figure exactly how much wade through this

and find the calculator only dont bother to deduct afterwords for a thermal decrease in output, in fact if your feeding it really cold air you add to it :p

the ripple and noise on a 510 is the lowest Ive seen 10mV on the 3.3, 5, and 12V rails and 20mV on the 5VSB
same with volatge regulation @ 1% (others equal that but not the noise and ripple)

with 38 amps on the +12v rails (not sure how that is divided accross the 3 rails,
(Im pretty sure they arent quad rail split plane but might be for some models?)
your not going to find anything more powerful in that form factor, youd need to jump to 1+1 or N+1
which is very expensive, in that class look at Zippy Emac redundants

there is supposed to be a new monster out from PCP&C if you need to power say 17 HDD or something, pretty sure its a custom order

they dont recommend exceeding 12 HDDs or something like that with the 510
of course the other componets factor into exactly where that line falls
 
The only difference is a 6-pin AGP Pro connector on the AG, and a 4-pin regular P4 connector on the XE. So, if you need the AGP Pro connector, get the AG.

Well, I have a 9800pro AIW now, isn't that an AGP pro card?

Maybe I'm missing something.
Do you need a 6pin AGP pro connector to run AGP pro cards correctly?

Nope, that's not an AGP Pro card. Think Quad output Matroxs, Fire GL X2, and Quadro FX3000 level stuff. You'd know if you had one, as it has a slightly different slot and the 6-pin power connector that was refered to.
 
even the Quadro FX3000s arent think 3D Labs Wildcat 4
its unlikely youd need it,
for the most part they now have exterior supplemental power
rather than use AGP Pro

Yeah, I don't need anything like that.
I just want a good gaming, and beginner video editing card.
So I can just stay with this PSU then.
