How good are "A-SI LCD Panels"?

Hi,
Can someone please give me a basic explaination as to what "a-si LCD" panel is.... and whether its better than other types of panels or not?

The reason i ask is because i just bought the Samsung 940MW 19" LCD TV Monitor 1440x900, it says 16.7million colors which suggests 8 bit panel...

It also says 8ms. Does not mention g2g, so that suggests normal black to white 8ms...

Nowdays every TFT panel is made with a-si (anamorphic silicium).
The panel type of this monitor seems to be TN+Film.
