How far will 975X last me?

The pre-production 975 Intel boards are booting with Conroe, but I cannot be 100% certain that production Bios will support it. It should work.... but don't get pissed if it doesn't support it. 
Kinda hard to tell, but I can't see the only boards supporting Intels top of the line CPU being the "value" edition of the next generation chipset 965 which should launch around the same time.

It is supposed to support Conroe (hearsay), so with that I would expect it to last a pretty long time. btw, 975 is my next planned motherboard.

What I am saying is that the chipset supports it, but if it is implemented or not is up to the bios. As of right now, Intel is not officially supporting Conroe on 975, mainly becuase it's still in validation. It should work... but don't get upset if it doesn't.

Not yet. Conroe in general is pretty hard to come by around here. The one that I did get I was only able to use for a short time. I tried booting it on Giga-bytes 975 board with no luck. Not too shocking since it's got the original bios on it. We should start seeing large samples by Q2.

Yea, I think pretty much all the samples now are going to hardware validation. They are out there, I just can't get my hands on them at the moment.

There is really no easy way to overclock on a pre-production Intel board. Not even the 975. On a side note... I have been playing around with some early samples of Woodcrest (conroe Xeon). They are only 2.33@1333fsb.... but they seem to run pretty good.

The main thing I'm interested in with the 975X is if/when it will support SLI. The rumors are that it technically can, but Nvidia wont license the tech for use on Intel chipsets. Thus forcing the consumer to buy Nvidia SLI boards. I want a 975X board, but I just can't justify the purchase since I'll be running SLI soon.

Well in the Anandtech review, it finished dead last to the Asus, Gigabyte as well as some nForce SLI 32 boards. So it doesn't look that good for the intel board.

The guy that just wants to bump the FSB up a bit, but still maintain Intel branded board stability. If you want to hook up phase cooling and test the limits of the hardware.... get a true overclocking board, but if you just want to fiddle around from time to time this is really a great board. As for the price... well, the market has already seen that $300 boards will sell. No sense in going for a lower price point.
Yeah, but it's audio performance was abysmal compared to the other boards and stock to stock it was at the bottom in almost every catagory. Considering the price premium it will probably command, I just don't think it's worth it. But, when it comes to stability, it probably has it hands down, and some people will pay the price for that alone.
