I'm trading my BFG 6800 GT 256 + Xbox for a forum members Gigabyte X800XT w/ samsung ram. I plan to buy an Arctic Silencer 4, so do you guys think I can hit PE levels? I think the stock for this card is 500/500 and x800xt pe is 520/560. What do you guys think? Also, which drivers should I use? I'm coming back to ATi, so things are gonna be kind of different. Has ATi improved its OpenGL performance yet?

Here is all the 3DMak05 data that I have on X800 XTs.

User-------------Score----Card--------Overclock
mopey----------6,847----X800 XT---648/590
smercer--------6,333----X800 XT---567/598
rich1111-------6,130----X800 XT---550/560
a1ka1ine-------6,102----X800 XT---555/531
DGREG--------5,665----X800 XT---520/560
FreakinSyco-5,615----X800 XT---519/579
tmoth-----------5,603----X800 XT---506/499
Nyfrin-----------5,545----X800 XT---500/500
ChrisUK-------5,482----X800 XT---525/560

Notice how ChrisUKs score is pretty low considering his overclock, that is probably driver related.

Most XT's use the same 1.6ns RAM as the XT PE's. So you SHOULD have no trouble hitting 600mhz on the RAM. From what I have seen most XT's will do 540-550 on the stock cooler. I think 560 is the norm on ATI Silencers without voltmods. My XT will be here Wednesday, so I'll know soon how far mine will go. I don't like the 6800s.

560 on the core you mean?

Yes, on the core. 590mhz on the RAM without ramsinks. 600mhz with them. Though I have heard of a few running 600mhz without Ramsinks and no artifacting.

Wow, pretty nice. I plan to order an Arctic Silencer 4, does it cool the RAM? Also, which drivers should I use?

Yep, it will cool the RAM front and back. From my expierence the 4.12s are the best drivers.

Hm, I just saw some pics...that thing looks fugly ( the back part ) lol...is there any way to get one that just cools the GPU and just let me get some heatsinks for the RAM?

You CAN use the Rev3 silencer. I did on my XT PE. It's not recommended, of course. Ugly as the back is, that's one BIG heatsink for the memory. A little lapping will really help out, too. I've got my Silencer 4 sitting here. It isn't going on until it's been lapped to 2000grit. The finish on this thing is horrible.
