Hi,
I just installed Windows 7 RTM 64bit twice and notice something weird.
Hard Drive Order: (I have them setup in port order; port 0, port 1, port 2, etc....)
HD: 5 HD - port 0 is WD Raptor 150gb(primary part); rest are all 500GB and all identical in firmware and all setup for primary partition.
All HD are SATA and IDE is disable in the BIOS.
1st Installation:
BIOS: AHCI
After Win 7 installation, I see port 0(Raptor 150gb) as C:\ because that s where I install Win 7 onto. However, Port 1 is E:\, Port 2 is D:\.
Why is that?
2nd Installation:
BIOS: RAID
After Win 7 installation, I see port 0(Raptor 150gb) as C:\, port 1 as D:\, port 2 as E:\, etc..
CORRECT!!!
My understanding would be 2nd installation is correct regardless of BIOS being set to IDE, AHCI, or RAID in the BIOS. However, seems Windows 7 wants to do its own way when it's setup for AHCI. I understand Primary partitions comes before logical, but all 5 HDs all have primary partition only.
MB is Asus Rampage.
Any idea why?
Thank You!
